Sure are giving App at GS 2018 a lot of credit

I’d argue GS beating App in 2018 was a bigger win than their win vs a 4 win Florida team.

1. App over Michigan - well, even though Michigan was obliterated by Oregon the next week and Michigan got off to a slow start I guess you still have to put it #1 for the notoriety of it.

2. Troy over LSU - Aside from Michigan the one win a Sun Belt team has over a team that finished ranked.

3. South Alabama over Miss State - Beat an SEC team that got to a bowl game

4. Troy over Oklahoma State

5. Georgia Southern over Florida - Everyone who doesn't like Florida in SEC country hasn't forgotten about this game (which is a lot more people than you think). The fact that we had a rash of injuries, were playing a 5'9" fullback and that Florida's defense was legit gets overlooked.

I'd put our 2010 game over the 2018 game... but I guess when you've got an inflated view of yourself this is to be expected.

The UF win is still paying dividends to this day living in Georgia... UF fans shutter at the sight of GS gear.

I stopped reading after "I guess" App/Michigan is #1. Just stop.

Easy to think that when you don't live in SEC country.

Yes beating a ranked team was great, but beating Florida got us a LOT more attention.

Lol at some of these SBC non OOC wins

Texas St over Houston in 2012 was pretty big. UH was headed to the P5 New Year bowl tie in until they were upset them in the conference championship in 2011.

exactly. Beating a down UF team carries way more weight than beating one of the best App State teams of all time.

My apologies for not picking as #1 the second-biggest upset of 2007 with sufficient enthusiasm.

Does this mean App fans acknowledge this game is a loss even with Zac Thomas for four quarters? I'll gladly acknowledge 2018 App is better than 2013 Florida if that's the case.

And I still get high fives from FSU fans.

Hell a Kentucky fan I ran into the other day saw my Georgia Southern shirt and wanted to talk about the Florida game.

So yea, Florida game was bigger for us.

Good one. Yeah, Stanford/USC.

I think we need some consistency in defining a "big win." You guys are rattling off the attention/impact/etc. of the Florida game and simply comparing the talent gap between App/Michigan while downplaying the impact. Well guess what, the Michigan game almost did more for the value of my degree than I did. It's mentioned every time there's a big upset.

By the same token, I'm not going to sit here and say GS's biggest win is App in 2018, because I know the Florida game did way more for your program. Perhaps more than the 6 flags over East Georgia.

The only one that thinks this is YOU! No one will remember how many games UF won, they will only remember that GS beat them. On the flip side, no one that is not already an Appy fan remembers or cares that you were ranked 25th for a couple of days in 2018.

The 2018 game is just another nameless G5 beating a nameless G5 in the minds of most college football fans. Our game against UF was an FCS team beating an SEC team. People will, and do remember that.

As others have said, I also have had multiple SEC school's fans and multiple others stop me and comment about the UF game when I am wearing GS clothes. Not once has anyone stopped me and said, "man, how did you guys beat that juggernaut of an Appy team in 2018?!? They were awesome."

I don't think anyone can downplay the impact of your win over Michigan when it's talked about on EVERY.SINGLE.BROADCAST. Some of what we (Georgia Southern fans) have is fatigue from hearing about it excessively for the last 12 years, so that's why you see the reaction from some of our guys. It really is the biggest win any of us can claim at this time though and will be hard to overcome because of the circumstances.

Even if we beat LSU this year, since they're pretty much a top 5 team, it still would struggle to compare just because of the circumstances of an FCS beating a top 5 vs a SBC team beating a top 5.

The rest of the conference just hasn't had to deal with hearing about it to the degree we have. Still an impressive accomplishment. Although I never would have played them again....I still think the rematch in 2014 was a mistake and not really worth the money.

An understandable position. Sometimes we get tired of it being the only thing they mention too (since we have achieved much more since then), but I'm not going to downplay the impact. It may have done more for the winning program than any other single game in college football history.

Touchy subject. I'm glad the biggest win in our history wasn't against a 4 win team, GS is a shell of a once proud program. Needing validation from casual SEC fans (that wouldn't understand the difference between a terrible SEC and a quality G5 team) celebrating a win against the worst UF team in the last 20 years, I do laugh at that clip of them blocking each other however!

I also enjoy GS downplaying getting ranked in the top 25, it's sad I may never get the chance to return the favor.
