RE: Who wins the West Division?
I'd be curious to look at the win percentage of home teams in mid-week games in our conference versus the win percentage of home teams on Saturdays.

The home team in the GS-App series is 4-1 (all five games on weekdays). Compare that to Southern-State where the home team is 1-4 (every game on Saturday).

RE: Who wins the West Division?
Since 1992, the home team was won the Louisiana-Arkansas State game...with three exceptions.

The Cajuns won in Jonesboro under Rickey Bustle in a year the AState offensive line was so decimated they were on their fourth or fifth center by the time the game rolled around.

The Red Wolves won in Lafayette the season Gus Malzahn was the coach.

And, the Cajuns won in Jonesboro the year Brian Harsin was coaching the Red Wolves.

That's three times in 27 years. There's something to this "home field" thing.

So Ark State is 2-2 in the last 4 games in Lafayette?

Similar to ECU, I believe Texas State was a quality coach away from contending. The talent, experience, and competitiveness (on one side of the ball) is there. If the other units can catch up and talent can be allowed to flourish, Texas State may make a surprise run at it this season.

However, I think Arkansas State is still in a good position. Louisiana is decent but I didn't see anything really impressive about their play last season. They have SEC size players with middle of the pack talent in the SBC.

This seems to be the case every year with Louisiana. I remember seeing them run out on the field in Lafayette in 2013 and just thinking holy hell those guys dwarf ours.

RE: Who wins the West Division?
Obviously I am biased, but I have TXST as a dark horse in the West. We should still have an above average defense next year. With both Stitt and Spavital, I expect our offense to be much improved over last year. As long as we can stay healthy, we should have as good a shot as anyone else in the West.
