He excels at leg power and making short sprints through the line. He's a mess to tackle and would give SBC defenses fits. He would fit in our offense like a glove and would likely get a lot of reps and film if he's looking to boost his resume for the NFL after this season.

He would have fit in well at App under Satt's offense last year, but I don't know enough about what Drink is going to do with the offense to make that call.

I'd be surprised if he ended up at App. We're pretty loaded at RB currently.

I imagine he believes he would win the starting spot at any of the 4 schools

I'd say his best shot is at unc-cheat.

Troy's Marcus Jones ended up at Houston, and Tron Folsom will be going to Colorado State. Can't be sure what's in store for Troy this year, but if they have plans on going to the NFL, these decisions are lateral moves at best. Colorado State is a step back, IMO.

Houston is a lateral move?

Houston under Tom Herman was pretty good. Houston was 8-5 and 7-6 in the last two seasons, though, and I'm not sold on Holgerson as a head coach. You could argue perception I suppose, but Troy over the last three years was simply a better program. I'm not sure Troy will be as good as Neal Brown's Troy moving forward, but I'm not sure Houston will be either. They're an AAC program, but not necessarily a good one.

I wouldn't say Houston is a lateral move. They've had a very good program.

Colorado State though... that may be a step down.

Based on what they have been the last two years, I'm not sure it will help his draft stock. Just my opinion, of course.

Overall UH is better program overall. Thinking otherwise I don’t understand. It will help draft status playing in way bigger city with NFL team there and scouts that live there as well from other teams. SBC has one guy drafted and UH had three with Ed Oliver going #9. But yeah it won’t help. Lol

Not so much the pay but just wouldn't have to go to any classes and still get a degree.

I heard they have a great study abroad program for their athletes that takes them up and down the Atlantic Coast.

My point was not that Troy is a better program. Troy isn't better from a long term perspective. My point is that Houston's defense is atrocious. It's hard to make plays when everyone around you sucks. They were 7-6 and 8-5 last two seasons. Houston being a better program won't help him if Houston is a 7 or 8 win team next year. Ed Oliver was a 0.9969 5-Star recruit. Marcus Jones is talented, but really benefited from being in Vic Koenning's system. Oliver won't be there to pressure the pocket either.

What’s your theory he won’t get drafted with 7-8 wins? They don’t draft you by how wins your team has. If he does well he’ll get drafted. He’ll have way more exposure, there’s tons of scouts that stop through UH. Marcus Green was the only SBC player drafted. Come on man. If he plays good, has good times at pro day he’ll have better chance to get drafted not team wins.

We're going around in circles here. It's not 7 or 8 wins, I agree. It's about the fact that Houston does not field a defense, and I don't expect that to change with Holgerson at the helm. Houston gave up 37 points per game last season. It's very difficult to be an NFL caliber player if the dudes around you aren't doing their part. Houston may be a better program, but Troy has been a better team over the last two years, especially on defense. It's light years difference Vic Koenning vs Houston's defense. VK put everyone, including Marcus Jones, in a position to make plays.

I'll give you that he might get more exposure, but he's going to have to prove that he can be the same Marcus Jones at Houston on the field, and at pro day / nfl combine.

I don't forsee Marcus Jones being a draft pick anyway. He's a generous 5'9", 175 lbs. He's going to need to gain quite a bit of weight, and outplay his size if he wants a better shot at the NFL. He was also burnt quite a bit by some of the better WR's in the Sun Belt this past season.

Now, his kick return skills are another story. He could possibly get drafted on that skill set if he does it well at Houston, and can stay uninjured.

UH had a LB drafted in 2019 6th round 2018 had LB go in 7th and WVU had a LB drafted in 6th round. The last time Troy had a defensive player was in 2012. Your point isn’t working out for you.

RE: SBC Transfer Portal
In basketball as well, Troy has a few players tranferring out:

SF Javan Johnson
PF Devante Foster
SG Malik Burnett
SG Spencer Rodgers

One of our more promising players, guard KJ Simon, initially opted to transfer but has decided to stay at Troy.

What's been evident in this whole process is the lack of discipline and respect that Cunningham's players had. In one of his social media posts declaring his transfer, Burnett essentially mocked the the #TakeTheStairs slogan that Scott Cross uses.

So most Trojan fans are A-okay with these guys leaving the program. Cross is bringing in his own players sooner. He just received a commitment from the Texas 4A Player of the Year.
