MyBB Are we still using Basketball Pods next year?
So I thought the Pods idea in basketball was a good one when presented to our league, but with the stated goal of increasing the RPI being the idea behind the Pods, are they here to stay? Will they truly help the NET? I don't usually go to the CUSA board, but I went over there to see how they liked the Pods and they are pretty mixed as to whether or not they like them. Do you think we will move forward as planned, or end up scrapping the Pods?

No one knows. Sun belt will likely make a final call this summer

I feel as mixed on them as the CUSA fans do. I just hope we can snag a few more OOC wins next year.

pods didn't help C-usa this year, and they had better occ results than Sun Belt did. that tells me for the pod system to work, first, the conference needs both good occ record, with quality wins, and second the tops teams in the conference to run away from the rest of the conference during conference play. parody destroys the benefits of pods

Pods are designed for the years when you get one dominant team, and trying to get them in at large range

It won’t do much during years like this when we have 4 teams all beating up on each other at the top of the league

I wish I could find where it was posted, but someone posted a comparison of NET versus RPI rankings and mid-majors were significantly more likely to be lower in the NET than the non-mid-major conferences.

Georgia State's gap was particularly big IIRC.

Don't know if it matters. Get rid of the pointless tournament or shrink it up.

The basketball tournament isn't going anywhere. ESPN has purchased the TV rights and it's an ESPN2 game on Selection Sunday.

Even if ESPN would let us get rid of it, it would be monumentally dumb.

As of right now, the plan is to have the pods.

But the coaches are urging the AD's to get rid of it.

New commish will have input, I'm sure. Decision will come at the Spring meetings.
