Your funny,And misinformed !For the last 50 years just look at the records .. in fact we have had four really good producing teams since lol. Two of which were Buzz . The groundwork for terrible basketball was laid 50 years ago and never improved. Cobb is not the reason we have NO basketball heritage . Just look at the records.

He didn't say Cobb is responsible for App having no basketball heritage. He said he killed it for a "literal decade", which anyone can see is absolutely true.

I for one am pretty thankful for what Cobb did for our university as a whole.

Cobb didn't do anything but spend a ton of money and upset a lot of long time App people. Everything that happened during his time was due to Peacock and the football players and staff. Oat everyone he hired has been fired except Satterfield which was the guy the entire fan base wanted. Not much vision need there.

RE: Thank You Charlie Cobb
Cobb's initial impact at App was positive (game day atmosphere & facilities improvements) but most of those things were in motion already and some of that can be credited to Peacock. I'll still give him credit for an initial positive. His coaching hires were consistently poorly vetted though and the Capel hire was absolutely incomprehensible to anybody at the time. It hasn't gotten any easier to comprehend with time.

App was never consistently been a power house basketball program but we've had competitive teams within our conference. Houston Fancher couldn't quite get us over the hump but that 06/07 season was fun and we had some excellent wins over known programs (Vanderbilt, Virginia, VCU, Wichita State). We have never been a cellar dweller for extended periods and certainly never had the academic issues that Capel allowed. All that falls on Cobb.

That NIT did not go as I'd hoped.

I want to.know how involved Becker and the trustees are/were with this decision. The undercurrent I am.heaeing deom.folks is pissed off boosters vs. an Athletic Dept.that thinks they can sweep this under the rug or wait out the anger and may even be willing to accept down years until the convocation center opens.
All shocking.

It isn't often you lose an AD via hiring at a peer university and hire a better one. Imagine if Gillin had been at the reigns during Cobb's initial time in Boone. Baseball and basketball have been slow to pick-up but he got the track removed, big names in football to agree to come to Boone, and a game in BoA. Doesn't appear to be spending money he doesn't yet have and appears to be a solid judge of talent in coaching.

Baseball team appears to be coming around for 2019. No real egregious losses and some good young players.

I know this for sure from the minute Cobb stepped on campus attendance went from AA to division one. That goes a long way.

Cobb almost spent us back into FCS. It took Gillin 3 years to get us out of the red.
I laugh when people talk about the attendance and donor giving increases under Cobb. The switch to 3:30 games came about from meeting with alumni in Charlotte, WS, Greensboro & Raleigh asking for a KO time they could spend time with kids activities in the morning and still make games. It also had a large part to do with the new ESPN schedules of 2nd game starting times. If we wanted to be on, it was our best shot. As far as the cash pouring into the Yosef Club, the kids on those 05-through 09 teams were responsible for all that. All Cobb did was cash and spend the money like a drunken sailor.

Attendance did increase when Cobb got there but I'm not sure you can completely attribute that to Cobb. He had a hand in it for certain which is why I said his initial impact was positive. The attendance was a result of the improved game day experience which he helped to create in combination with Peacock.

By the way...AA IS Division I. Surely you're not an App fan who thinks we were DII until 2014. It's more accurate to say our attendance went from pitiful to good for a university of our size.

Yeah, I still just find it irritating. It feels like it is dismissive of our past. I'm proud of our current position and VERY glad we moved up but I'm also proud of our accomplishments before the transition. When I hear P5 fans do it, I usually just ignore it as ignorance. I really don't understand it coming from an App person. I'm sure it's an over reaction on my part and he didn't intend it that way....just my thing.

Shoot, most of the coaching in FCS use that terminology. IMO, we need to take down the 1AA/FCS NC flags. It was 12 years ago. Not dismissing what those teams did in the least
but we've moved on.

Team's always leave up National Championship plaques or flags. Why take them down?
