Louisiana - 77

Little Rock eliminated now also? Not sure.

The ULM radio guy said ULM hasn't won a men's basketball game in Jonesboro since 1985, is that right? If so that's crazy

Cajuns were down by 12 when JaKeenan Gant fouled out with 12:50 remaining.

And somehow, some way, came back to win.

Cedric Russell had a career high 34.

Anybody know if 2-0 would break a tie over 1-0?

For example if team A and team B go to a tie-breaker against Team C and Team A is 1-0 vs. Team C but Team B is 2-0 against Team C?

Yes and No

For instance:

If Texas State and Georgia Southern tie, and it gets down to record vs Team E (In this Case Coastal Carolina) Texas State beat CCU twice, GS beat them once. All ties are based on win percentage, so in this case, both of you have a win percentage of 1,000 so the tie is not broken.

However lets say Team C in your scenario is in a tie of their own with Team D. SBC rules say that you must break the Team A and Team B tie first, so that means you must consider the combined winning percentage against Team C and D combined to break the tie for first.

Team A is 1-0 against Team C and 1-1 against Team D. Team B is 2-0 against Team C and 1-1 against Team D. The tie break is win percentage

So Team A: 2-1 = .667 Win percentage
Team B: 3-1= .750 Win percentage

Team B wins tiebreaker and gets the 1 seed.

App is stuck in 10th and will travel to the 7th seed on Tuesday, which could be four different teams.

Coastal has clinched a ticket to NOLA based on tiebreakers.

The SBC Tournament will be Trojan-less.

Tiebreaks updated with 1 game to play:

1st Place: See last week's update. There's no change in any scenario except some notes about who wins a Texas State/GS head to head tiebreak, which I'll go over shortly.

5 seed: CCU/UL head to head tiebreak is complicated. If CCU wins Saturday against Troy AND Georgia State wins against Georgia Southern, my understanding of the top-down tiebreak system is the Chants get the 5 seed regardless how UL does. However if Georgia State loses, than my understanding is that UL would get the 5 seed with a Win regardless how CCU does

ULM Cannot be the 5 seed, best they can do is a 3 way tie with Coastal and UL for 5th and CCU wins that tiebreaker. They can screw up the GS/TXST tiebreaker if they get to that 3 way tie though.

7 seed: ULM or UL could both still finish 7th based on tiebreakers. USA could also sneak into this spot with a Win over App and a ULM loss to Little Rock

8 seed: South gets the 8 seed with a Win. ULM gets the 8 seed with a Loss and South win. AState gets the 8 seed with a Win, a ULM win, and a South loss

9 seed: Either AState or South

10 seed: App State

Only 3. AState cannot finish 7th. They can tie for 7th with ULM and USA, but South wins that tiebreaker based on a 2-1 combined record over the other two. AState went 2-2 ULM went 1-3

RE: Sun Belt basketball schedule for Week 18--Last week of regular season
Time to give everyone a headache: The Wacky Texas State/GS tie for 1st scenario Remember, TXST must beat UTA and GS must beat GSU for this to happen.

Head to head: Split
Record vs GSU Split
Record vs UTA Split

Record vs 5th place:

If its CCU outright: (CCU win, UL loss at AState) than they both went undefeated, it comes down to ULM Game with LR
A: If ULM loses to Little Rock. Texas State wins tiebreaker as UL wins 6th place outright.
B: If ULM beats Little Rock, UL/ULM tie for 6th than they both split with UL schools (GS 2-2, TXST 1-1) Proceeds to record against South. Georgia Southern wins tiebreaker

If its UL Outright (CCU loss, UL win) Texas State wins tiebreaker
If its a CCU/UL Tie (Both win or Both lose and ULM loses to LR) Texas State wins tiebreaker based on 3-0 combined record vs CCU/UL
If its a CCU/UL/ULM tie (CCU loss, ULL loss, ULM win) Both Georgia Southern and Texas State went 3-1 against all 3 combined. The tiebreaker drops to record against South Alabama. Georgia Southern wins tiebreaker based on Texas State's loss to USA

Simplest way to look at it:

If Texas State and GS Win, and UL wins at AState than Texas State will be the 1 seed

If Texas State and GS Win and UL Loses at AState AND ULM beats Little Rock than Georgia Southern will be the 1 seed.

Here's what I have.

8 possible combinations between the Troy @ Coastal, Louisiana @ A-State, and ULM @ LR games.

IF Coastal, UL, ULM win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

IF Coastal, UL, Little Rock win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

IF Coastal, Arkansas State, ULM win, then:
1. GS, 2. TXST

IF Coastal, Arkansas State, LIttle Rock win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

IF Troy, Louisiana, ULM win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

IF Troy, Louisiana, Little Rock win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

IF Troy, Arkansas State, and ULM win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

IF Troy, Arkansas State, and Little Rock win, then:
1. TXST, 2. GS

As far as I can tell TXST has 7 of the 8 possible tie-breakers with the 5th place team(s).

I think in this scenario TXST still owns the tie-breaker. GS went 3-2 against that trio (1-1 vs. UL/ULM and 1-0 vs. Coastal) vs. TXST's 3-1.

Whoops, I did calculate that wrong.

So yeah. Texas State would get the 1 with a win and Georgia State loss UNLESS: Coastal beats Troy, ULM beats Little Rock, AState beats ULL.

RE: Sun Belt basketball schedule for Week 18--Last week of regular season
Slight tiebreak change:

Was informed, via a screenshot of the email AD's were sending out to coaches about a change to the 3 team tiebreak procedure. As of last year, the rule with the 3 team tiebreak was that when you ranked the teams by composite record, only the top seed was removed, than the others were put into a 2 team tie:

Example: Last season, App State, Troy, and ULM finished tied for 5-7 in the SBC Standings. Via composite record, App was 2-1, Troy was 2-2 and ULM was 1-2. Using the tiebreaker last year, App got the 5 seed, and then Troy and ULM went into a two team tie, which went to ULM by virtue of a better record against one of the top teams in the league. So the final seedings were App 5, ULM 6, Troy 7

This season, if the teams can be CLEARLY RANKED 1-3 by composite winning record, than they will be seeded in that order. So in the above scenario from last year, under this years rules, the final seedings would be App 5, Troy 6, ULM 7. The change was voted on by Athletic Directors in the offseason. The conference, being the Sun Belt, posted the change, dropping the note about the two team tie to 1E, but failed to change the wording, so most of us assumed the conference was full of idiots, and ignored it being placed as 1E. Instead, it really is Tiebreak 1E. It only comes into play if two teams in a three team tiebreak are tied with the same composite record against the other three, than it goes back to two team head to head. Naturally, this was not clearly communicated to everyone, because we've had people who would know positing the original rules. Go figure

This effects three different potential three team tiebreaks that might come into play Saturday.

1: UTA Beats Texas State, GSU beats GS. GS, UTA, and TXST all finish tied for 2nd. The composite records are: UTA 3-1, GS 2-2, TXST 1-3. Under the new rules, Texas State gets the 4, GS Gets the 3.

2. CCU loses to Troy, ULL loses to AState, ULM beats Little Rock. 3 team tie for 5-7. Final composite records: CCU 3-1, ULL 2-2, ULM 1-3. CCU gets the 5, ULL the 6, and ULM the 7.

3. USA beats App, AState beats ULL, ULM Loses to Little Rock: All three teams would tie for the 7-9 seeds. Composite records USA 2-1, AState 2-2, ULM 1-2. USA gets the 7, AState gets the 8, ULM gets the 9 seed.

In other words, ULM is pretty much screwed by the new rules, and could potentially go from looking at a 5 seed, to a 9 seed and a road game in the play in round.

At least we found out the day before the last day of the regular season. Better late than never I guess...
