Why? The circumstances are pretty different. Kershaw was a clearly diminished player - his health and stats had been in decline and while he still had the potential for very good games he was/is at risk for further injury and significant performance lapses. I know Kershaw wanted to stay a Dodger but I assume one of the reasons the Dodgers and Kershaw were able to reach an agreement was because the market for his services wasn't terribly hot.

I expect Strasburg, after a season that was either his best or second best, will opt out into a FA feeding frenzy. I'm not saying he won't resign with the Nats - he obviously loves pitching there - but it's gonna be a battle.
well he did a few years ago when he was having a good season at the time. Early May 2016.

And Strasburg doesn't work for Boras. Boras works for Strasburg. if Strasburg wants to say, he's going to stay.

Nobody wants to stay anywhere, they want money.

Then why didn't Stras go to free agency after 2016?

I won’t pretend to know every reason, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t only because he love the Nats. Do you think his 2015 season, with only 127 innings pitched because of injury had anything to do with it? Is it possible he/Boras believed the market for his services wasn’t as high as hoped? He got an opt out clause in his contract - an opportunity to pitch at a high level over the following three seasons and leverage that into a much bigger contract.

Yup - he needed to prove he was worth the big contract first.

8 sweeps in best of 7 LCS. Only the '95 Braves won the World series. And only the '14 Royals were close at all, but of course they got madbummed.

I would be very concerned, Rockies 2007 perfect example.

If Nats do pull it out tonight, I really do hope they maintain their sharpness in the WS.

A moment of truth for the Nats. Allowing 4 runs to allow the Cards to come within 3. 6th inning now. Reminded of Game 5NLDS several years ago. Hope they contain.

My goodness! A Braves playoff superlative! I had forgotten what those looked like.

Good luck in the World Series, Nats--I'll be pulling for you to win this year.

Congrats to the Nats, you guys flat out smoked us. Will root for you in the World Series against either team you go up against, though I too fear that the time off won't do you all any favors.

Fun fact: last time there was a World Series in DC, World War I was still called The Great War (1933). Last time a DC team won it all, Jimmy Carter was less than two weeks old (1924).

yeah the week off could easily be a killer... And what scares me is there is rain tomorrow in NY so a rainout, and then Astros go Greinke/Verlander in 4 and 5 and maybe close out the Yankees there so they get extra rest prior to the WS.
