ESPN BPI has the same projections. Can we just not play the games and go with that?

For whatever it's worth, Ron Hunter says the team is priming to engage in "Tournament Mode"...so....

Our fans are pretty much holding on "wait-and-see" mode lol....but if this year's GSU squad loses out on top 2 seed, they don't have anyone to blame but themselves. Simonds and others did say on record that they're waiting until the tournament to "turn on the heat." Now I strongly disagree with that sentiment because I want to see 100% intensity in every game as a fan, but to be fair, I'm not the one playing the game. For now, it looks like our fans are giving them a benefit of doubt based on what they did during previous years and their SEC sclaps this year.

Sooooo, if I'm hearing you correctly, your players are saying that they're "ok" with not winning the regular season title. That they're "saving" their best effort for the Tournament. I understand that this is NOT your sentiment. As a fan, it would bother me.

I've never known a competitive athlete (worth a damn) that didn't want to win whenever they stepped between the lines . . . But hey, it's your team . . . if they're fine with "dogging it" until the Tournament who am I to quibble with their sentiment.

I will say that many a team has thought they could "flip a switch" and elevate their game at a moment's notice, only to find that it doesn't quite work that way.

We haven't won anything yet, and if we don't, I don't want it to be cause our guys were waiting until the tournament to play their best basketball. I want them to leave it all on the court each and every outing.

Can't wait to see how it all plays out . . . . 04-cheers

The inconsistent efforts all this year bothered the heck out me. Beat UGA, lose to Liberty, beat Alabama, lose to Troy, etc etc. Or spotty defense 1st half, then air-tight defense 2nd half. Lazy shot selection in one half, then crisp ball movement in the second half. All these things drove me absolutely nuts to be honest. It sure seemed like we "flipped a switch" in the CCU game from being back 32 points to closing within 8 points. ULL was blowing us out, until we "flipped a switch" in the second half. Same thing happened against South Alabama and so many other teams. The regular season has been frustrating.

but remember last year? GSU went limping into the tournament losing 4 games, then won the whole thing. Basically all 5 starters are from last year's tournament team. Maybe there is a method to their madness? or maybe it's the case of "been there done that" complacency. Your guess is as good as mine.

when Simonds said that he's saving "it" for the tournament time, trust me, many of us were confused as heck.

like I said before, if these seniors end their career unceremoniously, they have no one else to blame but themselves.

I totally understand what you're saying about inconsistent play, extremely frustrating as a fan. . . just when you think you've got it figured out . . . DOH . .

Maybe your guys can "throw a switch." If so, more power to y'all . . . .

But you know that saying . . . about going "to the well once too often."

The race to the finish should be fun. On the whole, I'd say that y'all and my Bobcats have been the two best teams in the conference. Would be appropriate if we were the Top 2 seeds in the tournament.

Gotta go earn it . . 04-cheers

We have the Mardi Gras ball tonight and Saturday most students will be out of town because of Mardi Gras break. Not exactly the atmosphere you want for the last 2 home games.

Quotes from Ron Hunter on 92.9 yesterday
https://929thegame.radio.com/media/audio...interviews

"The life of a mid-major is that everything comes down to the conference tournament in March."
"At the end of the day, if we had gone undefeated, we still have to win the conference tournament. One thing I make sure to get our guys to understand is that winning the regular season looks great, get the ring, blahblah, but at the end of the day, you don't win anything."
"Basketball is the only sport that plays in both [fall and spring] semesters. I don't want the guys to get mentally tired. It's such a long year. We've been doing this for a long time. It's really important to me that we are mentally fresh when it comes to the tournament time. Remember, we're still dealing with 18, 19, 20 years old kids. We've been practicing since June 5th and nothing we do will change much at this point of the season. I heard of a young coach practicing his kids for 3 hours every day (I wonder if he is talking about S.Alabama? he's the only young coach in the league I can think of) and I have no idea what he is thinking about. You gotta understand that these kids have to be mentally fresh and ready to go in the tournament."

Ok so..that means Simonds and others were taking their lead from the coach, so I can't be mad at them for the laid-back attitude....and CRH has earned the benefit of doubt...

RE: Sun Belt basketball schedule for Week 17 (Mon. Feb. 25 thru Sun., March 3)
Some inaccuracies in there:
-Go undefeated and you're an at-large team. If he's just talking in league play only I still think they're firmly in the discussion. They'd be 24-4 with their 4 losses to 18-7 Montana (118 NET, 96 RPI), 14-13 Creighton (56 NET, 69 RPI), 21-6 Liberty (64 NET, 111 RPI), and 21-7 Kansas State (28 NET, 22 RPI) with quality wins vs. 20-8 ETSU (66 NET, 65 RPI), 17-11 Alabama (48 NET, 44 RPI), and people would include Georgia just cause of their name even though its truly not a quality win. I get his point though and think he's just using some hyperbole. This league hasn't garnered an at-large bid in 11 years so playing for the tournament isn't a bad way to manage your season.
- I've heard the argument before that downplays the significance of a regular season championship because it doesn't guarantee you a spot in the NCAA tournament. I disagree so much with that though. Winning a conference championship is a big deal in my opinion.
- Only sport that plays in both semesters? What are these football players about to start up next week? What are these fall games I'm seeing baseball and softball play? Cross Country and the distance runners in track are the same athletes.

For some reason I bet his attitude on some of these things is a bit different in years they clearly win the regular season...

Well there was that year when GSU won the league regular season title, then knocked out in the tournament early...maybe he is speaking from experience during that year?

TXST's been taking it easy during the regular season too. Heck, we didn't even play our 1st or 2nd string PF's last game. Just wait till our players actually "flip that switch."

That’s a good point, and one I have to remind myself of from time to time.
That’s also why you probably get that “frustrating inconsistent play” from time to time.

I think their coach and players know that they've underperformed based on preseason expectations and are looking for a reason. I don't blame them entirely, but I'm not buying it.

I don’t know about ‘em flipping any switches, right now I’d settle for them all recovering from whatever bugs going around, and hitting this final stretch healthy.

what I think dont really matters, but despite Simonds, this year's team is lacking a strong post player from becoming the best GSU team in our history. We never replaced Session from last year who made rebounds and strong inside plays. Benlevi is a natural wing player and Tyson cant fill Session's shoes. Just my two cents.

Underperformed may be part of it. You also have to take into account that they’ve been very successful the past few years. So much so, that almost everyone they play is probably giving them their “A” game. Nothing folks like better than to “knock off the Champ.”
Could also be that they’re not as complete a team as they’ve been in years past. In which case, I give credit to Hunter for the season so far.
