Go read their message board.

Nope.....not going to pay that kind of money to join a Conference that pays the same.....don't confuse the fact that when the others moved we should have made our play with we still want in.....

Again......not going to make a move that's a lateral move that costs that much money.

Take away the entrance/exit fees, it would be considered.

Still, the window on that move is probably closed with the college football world so close to the next big shakeup of TV contracts. All energy is now focused on getting ready for that, not making a conference jump that might happen anyway through a reshuffling of conference lineups in the near future.

RE: C-USA alternate reality
I agree, on the football field there isn't much difference at all right now. Any given year one conference could argue they are better than the other imo. But overall I think CUSA is the better conference when you take in to account fan bases and the other major sport, Men's Basketball.

Louisiana is the only team in the Sun Belt who has respectable basketball attendance. Yes there are some teams in CUSA with terrible basketball attendance too, but overall, we have pretty good attendance.

Louisiana is #1 in the Sun Belt (BY FAR) with an average attendance of 3,917/game. That would put them 6th in CUSA in average attendance with Charlotte (3,876/game) right behind them. Louisiana isn't even close to the Top 5 in CUSA with Marshall (6,451/game) and ODU (6,164/game) leading the way for CUSA. Again, Louisiana is by far the leader in the Sun Belt and would be middle of the pack in CUSA.

CUSA and Sun Belt may be pretty even in football but there is no comparison in basketball. CUSA is definitely the bigger/better conference from top to bottom.

Right now, Sun Belt is a step ahead of the CUSA in football

Very debatable. Pretty even. Even if SBC is ahead it's barely ahead. In terms of basketball, there is no comparison.

Troy wouldn't go to CUSA. Troy's chancellor is on the record for stating his desires to keep the SBC stable and strengthen its ranks, and this was said before realignment occurred

All though you statement makes a lot of sense...no C-USA has become a joke.

I would take Sun Belt in football and C-USA in basketball. But the bottom line is the Sun Belt/C-USA/MAC are all 1-bid basketball leagues and the difference is negligible. MWC and AAC are both 2-bid leagues so there's a pretty big jump. The MWC only fits maybe TX State though and the AAC isn't adding. So we're all gonna be in the Sun Belt for quite awhile.

When it comes to moving to a new conference, schools always have to consider the fact that if they turn the offer down, one of their conference mates will likely get (and take) the offer. The fear of missing out (FOMO), always plays a part in these kinds of decisions.

Having lived through the demise of the WAC, trust me when I tell you that when it comes to changing conferences, it's every man for himself.

There are CUSA east programs that would trade western CUSA members for App, GS, and Troy tomorrow.

No doubt, but those very same programs were dogging App and GASo when we moved up. After the chicken act by USM and the thuggery I saw in NO from MTSU, I have no desire to join up with that bunch. I say let 'em lay in the bed they've made.

This guy sure would. I advocated for all three of you the last go around.

It would make my day to drop the Texas schools (nothing against them other than they are in Texas) and then add App State, Ga Southern, Troy....I'd even let you all decide the other school to bring in lol

But what exactly are we afraid of missing out on? Playing our games on Stadium/Facebook Live? Being in a conference with the lowest CFP payout by a wide margin? Paying an exorbitant amount of travel costs to play fringe teams our fans have never heard of? Why would we be sad if we turned down an invite and another conference mate accepted it instead?

I only care about football:

CUSA has two storied G5 programs in Marshall and S Miss and both should be in the AAC rather than CUSA. Marshall hosts teams like Pittsburgh and Boise St in the same season and S Miss gets bowl games vs Florida State - this has nothing to do with CUSA though. If you have a history of being ranked in the Top 25, produce legends like Randy Moss and Brett Favre and a number of big upsets year after year then brand recognition will do this for you. It’s not the CUSA brand, it’s the programs’ individual brands. It requires more teams like this to elevate an entire conference brand (think Louisville, TCU, UCF, Memphis, East Carolina, etc). However, teams like MTSU, FAU, FIU, UAB, etc are dragging you guys down. Actually, being in CUSA hurts you guys - while UCF, Memphis and East Carolina at least have the chance to progress, Marshall and S Miss are stagnating - and some SBC and remaining CUSA teams are catching up.

I admire both S Miss and Marshall for their histories and I hope Troy can continue to be successful and maybe get there in the next 5-10 years. Technically some SBC teams are right there now, coaching, facilities, performances, etc but brand and history is not there yet. It takes more than just winning 10 games and go to a bowl game. Years of Top 25 rankings and NFL legends are crucial. So yes, I do admire/respect individual programs but not (G5) conferences...

You clearly have not interacted with many LaTurd fans if you are surprised by this. The delusion runs deep up there in rustonia.
Just remind them that they sat home from a bowl so they wouldn't have to play ULM or that their admin had to put out a public letter asking their fans not to urinate in public at their baseball "stadium".

Thank you for the kinds words about Marshall. I obviously respect Troy as well. I'll never forget us upsetting #6 Kansas State and then going on the road the following week to Troy (which I think was one of the biggest/best home game you all had ever had at that particular point in time but could be wrong.) Yall kicked our butts haha.

Agree with what you are saying. Imagine what Marshall, So Miss, Troy, App State, and Ga Southern could all do for a conference brand if we were all under the same banner. Getting pissed just thinking about it to be honest.

Let me guess. You're above 40 years old and a long time fan.

Lot's of great points for the good and the bad but the fact that CUSA has better basketball and the SB is making a strong position in football solidifies it. Those at the top are where they want/need to be and those at the bottom are indifferent. No changes in the foreseeable future.
