Unless we’re talking about swapping teams it’s a non-starter for all parties.

They really still believe that though or at least it makes them feel better about themselves.

Once again. nobody would ask you so why are you talking like you would or wouldn’t. Your own conference is waiting for your demise.

Hey, once you guys find a Sun Belt team willing to pay the millions to move just to make basically the same amount of TV money for more travel, would you let us know?

And the only reason that the SBC fans are perceiving that their conference is stronger is because of the addition of App State And Southern. Troy has always been decent. Nobody other than those teams are world beaters either. Your west winner had three conference losses. But I know for a fact that ULL fans would jump to CUSA. Go read their message board.

No one asked what their fans would do. That has absolutely nothing to do with what their administration would do.

Then again, your using posts on ragin pagin of all places to make your point. That's pretty ridiculous.

Same here. I would rather be Independent and play 3-4 P5 teams every year. But I understand it’s still tough to survive as an Independent...

My order of preference would be:

A Independent
B AAC
C New CUSA/SBC with S Miss, LA Tech, Marshall, UAB, Ark St, App St, Louisiana, etc
D SBC

RE: C-USA alternate reality
If I was an administrator I'd have to put the + and - on a sheet of paper. Right now the + isn't greater than the - so I'd stay put and hope for realignment to put me in a more compact conference with equal or better competition. The future of college football at this level isn't going to be TV money. The privileged 5 have seen to that. It's going to be butts in seats for us. Strong rivalries between teams within driving distance could do a lot to enhance the bottom line. That's the reality I'd be seeing. And I assume most are smart enough to get that.

And before anyone goes there, no one in the Sun Belt or CUSA is going anywhere except into a realignment. The money schools are fine where they are and have no motivation for expansion and dilution of their money pools.

I never said we would get invited. I have the right to say I personally wouldn’t want to, nor do I think our administration would if we were asked. Also, as a knowledgeable person that follows the SBC I don’t think anyone else in the conference sans Texas St. would either. I never even post on the C-USA board, but tired of the tried and true any SBC team would join if asked when it’s clearly not true anymore. FYI, I love the additions of App and GS, but we can compete with anyone in the SBC (except Ark St. :( seemingly), having smoked GS this year and beat App last year. I seem to remember beating your premiere name team in USM as well that the Turds never seem to be able to beat including this year. We aren’t going anywhere and are continuing to improve under Viator.

My favorite was during the Hawaii bowl last night, I read the game thread over there and Tech fans are saying "Where are all the App State fans now huh?" Problem is, not a single App fan had posted in the game thread, and the best guess is only a couple even knew Tech was playing.

It was odd.

Why would they say that? It’s Hawaii....07-coffee3

It’s simple. ULL and Ark St would do it it because of their history with Tech plus the added bonus of being in the same division as USM and UNT. It’s more exciting for fans than being associated with ULM. Texas State would do it to be with other Texas schools. So there is Three from the West right there. Now SunBelt East already has a tight bond so not sure why they would leave. Not sure what App State and Southerns history is with Charlotte Marshall and ODU?

And sure ULM can compete occasionally with these teams but ULM Doesn’t have the resources to remain consistent and are not attractive to any other conferences. That was truly a school that should have stayed FCS. See Idaho.

I can't speak for Terry Mohajir but I'd hope his business acumen would be strong enough to realize that leaving for CUSA is a lateral move at best, even if it did gain us some old schools we used to play. To be honest, our annual battle royal with the Cajuns would be hard to give up if you simply based it on the history of old SBC schools playing again. So, no, I doubt your claim of stAte making a move.

ULL would bolt in a heartbeat to be in the same conference as Tech and USM. And baseball with Rice. Their fans would riot if their leaders passed up that opportunity. And by the way, it probably is a lateral move but that has nothing to do with why they would move

Obviously you do not know our fan base that well. Mohajir would be in a lot of hot water if he announced such a move. Generally speaking, we see CUSA as a lateral move at best, a step down at worst.

My favorite thing in all this mess is that the only reason LA Tech fans give for a school wanting to join CUSA is to play LA Tech like we’re all tripping over ourselves to get them on our schedule. 03-lmfao what in the world

Let's be real. The SBC got stronger once both F_U's were gone. Addition by subtraction.

I’m surprised Alabama hasn’t left the SEC to join C-USA so they can play LA Tech every year.

The CUSA has a lot of dead weight bringing down the strength of the conference as a whole. If there was reallignment, it should be to remove that dead weight and swap with the better programs. Anything outside of the AAC in the G5 is a lateral move.

I would happily reconsider if CUSA harnessed some lightning and became a multibid hoops league again. I actually think the Belt has just as good a chance of doing that, though.

I’m generally in agreement with you about the SB West. They are on much more shaky ground in terms of affiliations. As for the SB East, App and GS are surprisingly tight. We both have history with Marshall, but I’m sure both schools are much more likely to try to persuade Marshall to join them outside of a full blown realignment. GS has a small history with ODU, having beat them two years in a row in the playoffs (Taylor Heinicke era). They haven’t been particularly stellar since he graduated though. App and Charlotte would quickly turn into a rivalry much like GS and GaState, with Charlotte capitalizing on App bad hires/coaching transitions/down seasons/etc. Troy won’t make the jump without a lot more money guaranteed. Outside of the West, GaState is the most likely to leave from a fans perspective.
