Satterfield refuses to honor some Petrino offers
..... maybe GT did good avoiding Satterfield. IMO Satterfield should have to suck it up and honor the commits. If they haven't committed .... you can withdraw the offer. But if you have a kid who has punched the ticket and thought they were a Cardinal, you can't just pull the rug from them like that.

RE: Satterfield refuses to honor some Petrino offers
Don't just blame the coach. A good AD would veto withdrawing offers that have been accepted. For that matter, athletic department policy should forbid withdrawing an accepted offer except in extreme cases, such as a kid who gets in serious criminal trouble. This is the sort of thing that makes for terrible relations with HS coaches. There are bad long term consequences for mistreating kids in this way.

Yeah screw that noise. These kids have til February to find another scholly. If they can't do that, they definitely should never have been offered at U of L. This ain't Satterfield's fault.

Snowflakes will eventually learn that the world isn't fair. And the college campuses today, with their safe spaces bull crap, are setting up a lot of these students for very rude awakenings later in life. These kids are lucky to learn this lesson NOW, instead of when they're actually in the real world.

I wonder what became of the last player that Louisville burned on a scholarship late. I believe he led another ACC team to victory over the Cards this year.

Louisville asked Matt Colburn to grayshirt. They had too many commitments and were trying to make the numbers work while asking an undersized RB to wait until January to enroll. Thus allowing that scholarship to be counted toward the next season’s recruiting number.

SEC schools do this EVERY year, not a word is said. Louisville, a college football peasant, does it and all of a sudden Louisville’s the bad guy because of some whiney high school coach in South Carolina.

I dont think this is bad form on his part at all. Why would anyone expect him to honor a different coaching staffs offers? The staff they just fired. They hired the guy to win football games not endear himself to a couple highschool kids and their parents that he doesnt even have a relationship with. I keep seeing people posting about this everywhere and it boggles my mind that folks think Satterfield is in the wrong here in any way. Coaches dont even keep kids they recruited to the schools for their whole careers. I talk to plenty of players parents. The coaches kindly ask kids already in the program to look elsewhere if they don't see them in the plans. This happens at every school in the country.

This is the way College Football is run...the players don’t “So-Call” Honor their Verbal Commitments...and schools pull this all the time.

Every time you have a coaching change this happens. A player will De-Commit due to the fact he had no relationship with the new staff...the new staff might feel the Player was mis-evaluated and would not fit the scheme they run. You can only hope that you give the players time to latch on to another school. The players with Louisville have time and they also have the late signing period In February

South Carolina did this to Lorenzo Mauldin...he asked him to Greyshirt at the last minute when they got Clowney. That worked to Louisville benefit...ended up having a good Louisville career and became a NFL Player.

RE: Satterfield refuses to honor some Petrino offers
I doubt these kids would be able to find another P5 offer. If they were that good, Satterfield would keep them. If they had other P5 offers, they went away when they committed to Louisville. Would a school want a kid that rejected their offer and then came back when he was cut from the school he accepted?

The article says 2 players. He might want to see how his recruiting goes before he goes nuclear on existing recruits.

Nah ... you don't keep guys just to fill out your roster, if you have zero intention of playing them. It ain't a fraternity where they "need the dues". Those schollies can be used in future classes, with kids that actually FIT the schemes the new coaching staff employs.

RE: Satterfield refuses to honor some Petrino offers
No problem with this at all, and let's not act like this doesn't happen at multiple schools every single year. The only people I've seen complain about it are two local Courier-Journal reporters. Regional and national guys understand reality and don't have a problem with. Take a look at what David Hale and David Glenn have said on the issue, siding with Satterfield.

A new coach comes in and recruits are free to decommit, saying their style doesn't fit the new coach (happened with UofL this month), but the new coach can't say the same to several players? What's more fair, 1) Tell a kid he doesn't fit your style and let him know 8 weeks before the Feb. signing day, or 2) Stay silent, knowing a kid is going to ride the pine and two years later the kid is a 20 year old redshirt Soph. at another program who hasn't seen the field after he sat the bench for his Fr. season at UofL and then redshirted during a transfer year?

100% different situation then Coburn, as there you had no coaching change and the player was told the week of signing day (the only signing day at the time) that the full offer was being pulled.

I remember when Dino took over after Scott Shafer at Syracuse, that Dino told the recruits that didn't fit his style of play that they would not get any playing time. Some left on there own. others stayed. But he let them make their own decision as to whether they would stay or go. He didn't take away any scholarships, that I heard of.

Just think ... y'all coulda been 9 and 3 earlier! I kid, I kid.

I have no problem with how Dino handled it. I also have no problem with how Satterfield handled it.

I think this is just part of the process. These guys can potentially land other offers. I wouldn't assume that just because they aren't guys that Satterfield thinks are scholarship worthy that they won't get other P5 offers. It could just be that they are square pegs in a new round hole.

I think it's better they find out now.

Happens everywhere there's a coaching change.

Nothing to see here.
