pretty fun article discussing the last time the Warhawks (then Indians) had lofty preseason expectations for both football and basketball.

Roberts had all the connections and got a bunch of transfers (some bad boys) and had a bunch of talent. Vining always had talented teams during the 80s and early 90s. Then we made the jump as an independent and got a terrible President about the same time who proceeded to nearly kill the university. Coach Z did pretty good without a conference (you should check out the schedules those teams played). Had we been in a conference, I think it would have been a different story, but Swearigen still would have screwed up the university.

That being said, football has a good chance of making a bowl game. From everyone who has talked to him, Richard is very excited about the basketball team. We return Ertel (Freshman of the Year) and Munnings. We get Daishon Smith who transferred from Whicita St and some other transfers who played at Oral Roberts, UAB and Illinois St. I think Ertel and Smith in the backcourt are going to be real fun to watch

Richard is never excited about a team or at least never shows it. This is the most excited I have ever seen him about one of his teams.

That Ertel kid is one of those annoying players you love if he plays for you but hate if he's on the other team.

Everything we heard about him was that he is a gym rat. He will drive, get blocked, drive, get blocked, drive and score. He is a SG at heart but playing PG. I think Smith takes point and Ertel will look to score. I think folks in the SBC are really going to hate him by the time he is a Senior. We got a steal when we found him.

And like Arrowhead said, Richard is never this excited. I talked to him, talking about the coaching job he did this past season and when I mentioned how I was looking forward to seeing Smith and Ertel play together, he just lit up.....never seen him that animated (positive). Should be a fun year.

I can't tell you how big a fan I am of Keith Richard. Thanks to Orlando Early, who almost killed that damn program, Richard has had to wander in the wilderness.

If this is the year he reaches the Promised Land, good for him.

Early having a job anywhere always ticks me off and I always rooted for any team playing NC State and cheered when they got eliminated from the tournament. Hopefully he takes a long time finding work.

Just to add a bit more about Early. https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/coll...85254.html
