None taken. We can't figure it out either. Two huge upsets in 2016 of OOC teams and couldn't do squat in the SBC.

The South Alabama Difference (Scoring Defense)

Nebraska: 105th
Pine Bluff: 121st (FCS/Massey)
SMU: 102nd
GS: 117th
CCU: 122nd
ULL: 124th
NMSU: 104th
USA: 49th

Troy: 11th

Hansen has played garbage row up until the South game and he got hit in the mouth. I was hated on by ARKST fans when I said he could be good, but maybe we should wait until he plays somebody. Well, he did and we saw what happened.

I actually do think he's a decent QB, I think his offensive line is major liability for him. They were last in the country in returning line experience, and it showed vs USA. He's get a few more trash defenses to get his confidence back before he plays what may be the best defense of his career.

I think Hansen is an excellent quarterback. He appears to be two dimensional though (which is better than many of our own quarterbacks) He excels at short route passing from the pocket and if that's not there, running North/South. Jam the center of the line and cover the short routes tight. He might burn you for a couple of deep throws, but that's better than playing his game. Because playing soft/prevent is an invitation for him to burn you. For Arkansas State, you must control the center of the line on offense. Do that, and you can beat just about anyone.

That's probably our biggest strength on defense. We cover the short passes extremely well, and jam the middle better than anyone in the G5. It's also extremely rare that anyone gets a deep ball on Troy over the last three years. Our weaknesses are the triple option and quarterbacks who can scamper. I know Hansen does some of that, so I doubt we completely shut down his offense.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I know I am. Picked up Sunday's Press Register and read in the sports pages once again that some jaguars whipped up on a pack of red wolves. I actually witnessed it take place, but reading about once more just made my day. Also read that Bama, Auburn, Troy and UAB also won. Life is good, yes it is. 24-19, how 'bout dem Jags?

I think you're right about his offensive line being an issue. We were getting pressure from the middle and both edges on most passing plays. We also have some very talented DBs who were able to contain the receivers long enough for the pressure to get to him or force a bad throw. (Can't wait to see how good they will be next year with our best corner and other starting safety back).

I also agree that Hansen is a much better QB than he looked Saturday. Our defense may be ranked #49, but almost 40% of our points given up were in the first 2 weeks to 2 very good QBs. Our red zone defense was the difference in this game though. Like Troy, we are very stout in the Red Zone.

What impressed me the most in this game was how our O-line held up (in pass situations) against the best front 7 in the conference. I'll be curious to see how Troy holds up to that pass rush. I think Silvers will have to win this game, I don't see Chunn running wild against that front 7. If Silvers can keep his cool in the pocket, this will be a good game.

You won't completely stop him. He's a good QB. He ain't Cam Newton though. I think the key for Troy game is going to be less Troy's Defense versus Ark State's offense, but rather how your offense does versus Arkansas State's defense. With all the talk about Hansen, you forget that Arkansas State has a pretty credible defense, especially at home (excluding some garbage time scores against their 2nd team, Arkansas State has allowed 13 points all year at home (granted only one team is decent in that bunch).

USA managed to break their defense down because we managed to control the time of possession so comprehensively in the first half.

Hansen is mobile, but he's not nearly the running threat that Lewis at ULL and Evans at ULM are. Hansen is dangerous because it takes so many people to cover those talented receivers that it's tough to assign someone to spy him. I think Troy will be able to handle his scrambles most of the time though.

I actually agree there. Hansen is VERY effective in North/South situations. When he scampers, he appears to be much less so, at least in the 3 games I've seen him play this year.

I suppose it depends on what kind of defense we're in. We're good at plugging the run, but if we're blitzing the QB I suppose that opens up the center of the line.

Jags suck. You got lucky this year. We still have the best QB in the league. Karl paid the refs off. Our center was hurt.

Did I miss anything?
