Attendance 21,673

What does it take to get your team to have 25,000 or more there? You guys are having a great season.

It's already been explained.... Troy is in the 2nd most rural place in FBS. Anything over 21k is good. There was as many people at this game as the entire county Troy is in.

We will probably have 23-25k with App

Troy, Alabama is less than an hour from Montgomery (pop. 200,000) and has about 18,000 people. Boone, NC is an 1.5 hours from Winston-Salem (pop. 250,000) and Charlotte (pop. 800,000) and has about 18,000 people. Troy University has approximately 20,000 students, while App has approximately 18,000. App regularly draws upwards of 23,000. Troy hovers around 20,000. Population and location isn't an excuse. Troy should be doing better attendance wise, so hopefully this season will give fans more of a reason to show up next year.

Actually, you really should count Troy's enrollment on the Troy campus only. The main campus enrollment at Troy is the lowest in the Sun Belt, at only 6,998 students, per wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_University

An non-traditional student (i.e., older, or part time students) attending TSU's Montgomery, Phenix City, or TSU-Dothan isn't likely to be driving an hour or two to go to a game in Troy.

This.

And the average fan has to travel an hour atleast to go to the game as most troy fans don't live IN Troy.

So 7k students on campus, plus an hour drive atleast (2 for me) and 21k for a no name Umass team is really good

So can we stop complaining about our attendance when we clearly have the smallest enrollment in the sbc and 2nd most rural FBS city in nation.

The biggest thing is neither NCST, UNC, or Duke have anywhere the draw that Alabama and Auburn have.

Sure I do. I have never lived in Troy or taken a class there, but have had season tickets since '99. I live about an hours drive away.

I said, not likely. I doubt you're the normal Troy football attendee. My family is from Greenville. Great town. But there's not a lot of attendance coming from there.

People who are likely to attend Troy games aren't people living an hour or so away, that never went to the games as a students because they never actually attend TSU in Troy. And part time students are highly unlikely to attend a lot of games. They've got kids, work, and school to manage.

Alumni living close to the school and traditional students at the main campus will comprise most attendance at games. Troy doesn't have a lot of traditional students, and they don't have a huge alumni base (as far as absolute numbers) of former traditional students to draw from.

Troy's ceiling is based off the fact that they are rural and so they don't get many casual fans. They get Pike County, but if you live in Montgomery (and you have no particular tie to the Troy campus) and you're going to invest an hour going to a football game, its much more likely that you'll drive 50 miles to Auburn or 100 miles to T-town.
