We are a different team from whatever that was in OOC play. Still need to prove it against Troy.

I'm not convinced either but this has been a bizarre year. Couldn't settle on a QB in spring until the very end when Hansen was named #1 and then Voytik comes in, don't settle on a QB until late in the fall when Voytike was named #1 and then yank Voytik after two turnovers at USU. Play two games with Hansen the starter and turn the ball over 9 times. Only 1 turnover the last two games combined.

Have you seen Troy play the last two weeks? Maybe none of us are "upper crust". We've got some work to do. I'm not convinced we're the top team until we beat APP. And then we could lose to ARKST five days later. So we're all kind of in the same boat.

I agree. The three of us are better than everyone else. After that, who knows.

stAte has become a 'slow burn' for any of you hunters/shooters out there.
I think the level we're playing at right now, is what our coaches expected to see from us on day one.

Honest truth. Troy's looked great this year, but they've also proven to be mortal a little the last couple weeks, and got pretty lucky that Georgia State and South Alabama have no offense to speak of.

App's got 6 wins and looked very good doing it, but they've also not played anyone decent since Tennessee, and the Vols are borderline Top 25 right now.

AState's started 3-0 in league, but is really just now starting to figure things out after an 0-4 start that included the program's first loss to an FCS school since Thanksgiving 2001.

If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say App is the best team right now, simply because their defense is incredible. Still, I remember everyone in the league believing strongly that App was better than AState last year, and then we walked into Boone and won by 2 touchdowns. Anything can happen over 5 days in mid November.

Good assessment. I'd also say that the two of you not playing each other is a distinct disadvantage for Troy. Gonna be hard beating both of you.

At least it's balanced by y'all playing both at home.

Playing both of us back to back 5 days apart will be tough. Beat App badly and the emotional high might lead to a trap game against AState. Lose to App, and the deflation of having an 11 win season in sight and losing it and the conference in one swoop could be hard to recover from.

Same theory for us and UL the following week. We never play well in Lafayette, and if we're undefeated in conference coming off a huge win over Troy, it becomes a trap game to boot.

Just as I'm sure you weren't convinced stAte was in App's class last year. We saw how that worked out.

I never thought or said stAte wasn't in App's class last year. I liked App's chances, given the game was at home, but I knew going in that the Red Wolves were more than a worthy opponent.

This year is different. Being 3-4 with an L to UCA leaves much still to be proven, just as App still had a lot to prove all the way to the end of the 2014 season, finishing 6-0 after a 1-6 start. When App was 4-5 Or 5-5, I wouldn't have made the argument that App was in that upper tier. App had a huge hole and had to dig themselves all the way out before being in the upper echelon of the conference, in my eyes. Same goes for A State this year. Now, they certainly may go 7-1 Or 8-0 in SBC play, but going 0-4 Out of conference, as opposed to the other two teams with unbeaten league records who went 3-1 and 2-2, does not yet put them in the same level as Troy and App.

They need to prove it against Georgia State too. The emphasis has only been on Troy as if they will auto-win every other game they play. Lots of football left.

Troy and App have some issues, but so far they haven't shown that they will let those issues get the best of them in games they should win. A-State has.

I have no issue with anyone thinking that A-State has the burden of proof.

I'm not sure what AState has at this point. ULM came in arguably the worst rushing defense in FBS and AState didn't devote a lot of energy trying to rush on them.

I would caution against getting tunnel vision. Last year some dismissed AState for being trounced by Toledo and having a hard time getting past Georgia State. AState was written off in 2013 after losing to Memphis and then getting thumped by the Cajuns. We were done in 2012 after losing to WKU.

We have an endearing habit of being like the monster/bad guy in horror films and not being dead when expected.

Personally, I'm very skeptical of this AState team but I also know that the normal course in the Sun Belt is one tends to be better served looking at two things.
1. Is the QB healthy?
2. When looking at the overall schedule put more weight on the most recent games and much less weight the older a game is.

What they have right now have is a defense than can dominate, and a QB that is now able to take advantage of their plethora of top shelf skill players on offense.

Their over all speed and talent is such that if they do not beat themselves, it will be very difficult for any SBC team to beat them.

Again, any other coach in FBS is their HC during the first four games, and everyone would already know this going into conference play.

If we had a competent coach we would've won by four touchdowns.

If we had a competent coach we would've won by four touchdowns.

But you didn't, and I am forever indebted to Tyson Summers for that reason.
