We had to fight to win the FCS game. No reason we should be happy about losing to ULL, stAte or GaSo this season. I want CJJ and his staff to be successful, but history shows we are always penalized a ton, a lot in critical situations, which shows a lack of discipline on the field.

If we make a bowl this season, the calls will quiet, but it is time to compete for the conference championship, and we haven't done that.

----

Moving up for a greenfield is hard. Teams usually end up with massive problems with asymmetrical class sizes. Look at UTSA. Look at Georgia State. These are our peers - not Ga Southern or App. Get to one decent year then sink back down for a couple of years.

I'm not excusing USA's suckitude in the last couple of games, or our lack of progress. I've had and continue to have concerns about the program and its leadership. I'm just providing a bit of context.

Maybe so, but as a ULM fan you have some stones saying anything about other teams' failures. South should kick the war buzzards' fannies. We just lost a close one to a better coached team in a hard faught rivalry game in front of over 30,000 fans. What the hell has ULM done lately?

Classic response right there, what does anything I said have anything to do with ULM? If I changed my screen name, the point remains the same.

Well, your DA opinion is irrelevant on this board. Your Warhalks still suck after all of these years and the only thing y'all have to hang your hats on is a an upset of a sorry, depleted Alabama team years ago. South Alabama is still a brand new team with a bright future. ULM is dragging the bottom with little to no hope in site. I've even heard/read suggestions that Monroe drop back to 1-AA.

From the post on AStateNation it appears the posters there thought USA was more talented than GaSo.

Just going from memory the spreadsheet I punched data into had them neck and neck in the talent department.

Finally, a question for Troy fans. Based on their roster talent I posted here either last year or the year before "welcome back Troy" and predicted success based on their talent, and wonder why it took to this year for their talent to show up on the field?

talent was used 7 times in this post...

We should start surcharging for it.

Looking at the box score I'd say Troy was definitely more talented and looking at the season as a whole we're just better coached. That's no offense to USA, they've been a decent squad at times and they have a chance to get bowl eligible. Larry Blakeney's last few years (2011-2014) he had what I'd say is Bobby Bowden Syndrome. 2015 under Neal Brown was a huge improvement, but not on the scoreboard. We were a much better team than our record indicated, and it's showing this year in year two. To answer your question, it's top notch coaching.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/mat...=400869830

They played with a lot of energy and were able to force some turnovers and get some points very early off of great field position. Troy overcoming that and battling back is a testament to the talent and coaching difference between the two squads. After they went up 14-0 in the middle of the 1st, we outscored them 28-7 the rest of the way. Don't get me wrong, south has some talent. Their tight end could be a 1st round draft pick. He's something else.

I think talent on the field was pretty equal. A spike in a few spots on each side for each team. Troy is very young. We are ahead of schedule right now, with our talent being so young.

Troy's coaching staff is far and away better that South's. South would have been much better off if Jones left and Clark took over.

I think until Joey gets facilities to match the rest of the Sun Belt, it's a little unfair to call for his head, just my opinion. He's recruiting very well for having to defend attacks from Coach Brown and others about our stadium, etc.

I do agree we were certainly outcoached on offense. Our young QB played the worst game of his career so far and looked completely unprepared. Our receivers were wide open all night and he over threw them out threw it out of bounds.

On defense, I give us the nod at coaching. Sure, we had a bunch of busted plays, but considering what we have to work with, they did very well to hold you guys to 28 points. A healthy defense next year will be a force in the SBC.

Finally, I agree the talent was close to even, I give Troy the nod since they were healthy.

Troy looked bigger and faster to me.

Joey Jones is starting to seem like he's on a Steve Roberts career path.

Just a thought on the local kids. The ones that have played several high school games in Ladd. Do they really want to spend four years of college there as well?

I'm interested to see how we finish the season. Our season was extremely front heavy. We now have GSU, Idaho, NMSU, Presbyterian, And ULM. Not saying any of these are easy wins by any means, but a little better than Troy, Ark State and a healthy GS team at the time. I'll judge Joey and this season when it's over, again taking all aspects into consideration.

No chance. Which is why I'm impressed that we have so many of them sign with us.

USA should be favored in all the remaining games. Bet USA loses no more than 1.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this game has persuaded ESPN to consider televising this game annually and on the one or the deuce from now on. Great game, great young rivalry!

Go get 'em, Troy. Lookin' at you guys to become the Belt's first ranked team so we can all get that damn monkey off our backs.

No, my opinion is pretty spot on and shared by others now and when USA went the route of becoming UAB-South.

I hope you're still in high school, based on the maturity of your responses.

Those that have been around, know my critical nature towards the things in a Monroe. Also, let's not act like South is anything to write home about and what makes you suggest a bright future? Your road Sun Belt success? Your outstanding attendance?

Considering they lost to ULL, scored one TD against State and only scored 9 points on Southern, it's more likely than not that USA loses at least one game if not more. They don't play well in conference, simple as that.

I see it a little differently.HCJJ IMO understands the talent level of his team and does a good job of putting his players in situations they can handle.Troy is out recruiting South and looking at the OL that have left prematurely did have a chemistry problem with all the transfers.

South special teams were excellent and matched Troy.

Silvers is a little better than Davis

Troy's OL/DL were heads above

South's Allen was best player on field.

South plays as well as Troy in space.

South wins out......

P.S. That was not targeting...
