Ellison hurt his arm and stepped off for the last 2 plays which were both turnovers.

I'm surprised that GS took the timeout with 25seconds left after WMU did their victory formation, maybe they thought there was some unfinished bidness.

Earlier I said this was looking like Navy, WVU & Gag St all over again but you know in those games it looked like we just gave up. We didn't give up tonight and yes WMU was the better team but I think we still have the heart to make this a good season.

Why? Because he cares about his players? That he wants to bring a winning culture to wmu? And because he's not Appalachian states football coach?!

Calling those TO was a classless move. No reason for CTS to call those... none.

Western Michigan is a very good football team. They were talking about that on College Gameday this morning. It's not the end of the world.

RE: Round #2 GSU vs. Western Michigan
So... Good and Bad from this:

The Good - Our passing still looks improved from last year, so a step forward there. We also finally changed our snap cadence and the penalties dropped off as well (yay)...but now the true issues are shown without the penalties to fall back on. We managed more than 30 points but gave up nearly 50 (WMU is a good team. I give credit where it is due). The players have a no quit attitude which is awesome....they fought back to the point where the Pick 6, the kickoff return for the TD, and the fumble became what finished us off.

The Bad - WTF is this teams identity? This offensive coaching staff obviously looked at some of our plays from last year and tried to dissect them without knowing how/why they worked. Now the option part of our option offense looks awkward and 2 dimensional. There aren't many true triple option plays anymore (nor true read plays) and we don't use much misdirection anymore. Our O-Line play is severely lacking from last year also...we've taken many steps backwards in the running game. It's also fair to say that special teams coverage is suspect.

In conclusion, I'm not happy about the loss, but at least the final score didn't look like a blowout. We played tough, but WMU stepped up in their house. The offense fought back to at least give us a comebacks chance, but we didn't stop them all night defensively. I do think our O-Line is the biggest detriment to the team currently. Our longest run was 13 yards. I understand it's a new coaching philosophy and all that, but this lack of explosion does not look like Georgia Southern football.

GS got beat by a well coached team with an explosive offense. Remember when we used to be like that?

You know I think a lot of these comments are unfair. Yes it is taking longer to adjust to the offense this season but we did see improvement this week on offense especially with the penalties. It was the young defensive secondary that really let us down but we knew that could be the case before the season even started. Penalties and mistakes have kept our scoring down this year but I guess a lot of GS fans have forgotten Navy, WVU and GA St from the last two seasons. I say that because in those three games our running game was stuffed and we couldn't do squat to stay in the game because of it. I would suggest everyone take a deep breath and step away from the cliff because the season is just getting started and how we react after losing a game like this will tell us a lot about how the rest of the season will go.

RE: Round #2 GSU vs. Western Michigan
GS had some very good players exhaust their eligibility last year (OG's Byrd and Foreman, S's Dobson and Glover, LB Williams, TE/H-backs Dean and Ward) and lost starting RT Boynton to injury. Their replacements' performance has fallen far short of the 2015 output of those players.

Don't underestimate the loss of OC Ruse and particularly OL coach Atkins too. The new dual OC's and OL coach are a huge step backwards.

GS's OG play is the worst it has been since 2009, and for a run first offfense that is a huge problem, and I don't see it getting better any time soon. Given the emphasis GS has put on OL recruiting in 2014 and 2015 that is both puzzling and troubling.

This is the best analogy I've read.

It's not that the coaches are horrible, it's that they're not option coaches and they're trying to be. We know better than anyone how much preparation goes into having a competent option offense, and we're also know how much of our spring and fall camp was spent on the passing game. That's their wheelhouse, so I understand wanting to work on it. B6t you can't throw together some other coaches option playbook and offense last minute and expect good results.

How is it unfair? We return principle members of last year team and we just don't look the same. Yesterday's game was no surprise to me because of how off we looked in the first 3 weeks. I don't look at this game in the same light as the 3 you mentioned.

Going away from the triple option is only popular with band geeks that have never played the game. Kleinline is the bigger fool than Summers.

So 99.99% of college football is made up of band geeks?

I'm with you EagleWay. This loss is not like those other losses at all. For all intents and purposes, WMU is our football equal, and I think with Fritz and company at the helm we probably win that game on Saturday. What CTS and crew have done so far gives me zero confidence going forward in any games where I once thought we would get into a dog fight. I hope they prove me wrong.

The Ga St game is in a dimension of its own, and I largely believe it was because Fritz had one foot out the door and only felt that 2 practices were necessary that week. That's another discussion.

But for the WVU and the Navy games, they were poor performances that were outliers compared to the rest of the season. In 4 games so far, we have seen the offensive line bumble and stumble around while our backs have nowhere to run. Our offense is somehow predicated on an option scheme where the runner is met by 2-3 defenders at the line or scrimmage or in the backfield on most plays. That is a trend that has not changed from week 1 when everyone said "its the first week, they're working out the kinks". It has been the same for the past 3 weeks, and has actually gotten worse. It makes me call into question the coaches ability to adjust the blocking/offensive schemes or the ability of our current players to execute the scheme as the coaches have it drawn up. Trust me, as much as anyone in the world, I hope that the coaches and players figure it out and are able to put together a clean game where our backs have some room to make the plays we know they're capable of. But at this point in the season, I am doubting if we see it or not.
