I know this is all hypothetical anyway, but there's gotta be a somewhat even distribution of teams right? That Mountain division is absurdly stacked. Gulf division isn't too bad either.

I think these divisions are really well laid out geographically. If this were put into play this year, that Mountain Division has all the makings of a MMA cage match... producing some must see Big Boy Football.

No they're not. The Coastal is 1000 miles of shoreline. I suppose he figures we're going to put our teams on ships.

I'm okay with not merging with them at this point.

Exactly. A partnership / consortium might work but not a true merger.

If it is a last ditch effort for survival it's one thing, but neither the SBC or CUSA are in that position at this point.

Yea. Not much motivation for GS here. Give up ASU and App to mix it up with with Marshall and USM in a championship game every few years. None of the others get the motor running enough to make the move. Honestly we're on to something nice as it is now. If I'm giving up a team in the Sun Belt the discussion goes something like this. No you can't have them. No you can't have them. No you can't have them. Marshall and USM are nice but we've moved the dial significantly like it is in a short time. The what if we stick together and continue to improve like it is scenario makes me happy. Marshall and USM and WKU and MTSU are welcome to come join us. No need to make snide comments. It was meant to be a compliment.

A whole lot can happen over the next couple of months. Any G5 conference member that isn't actively pursuing advancement for themselves right now is asleep at the wheel.

My gut feeling is that App St's administration has already been in contact with CUSA and possibly the AAC. I know for a fact that LA Tech and several other CUSA schools have been in contact with the AAC. That is how this process works.

Exactly. IF cusa is asking for new teams it's because they lost usm, marshall, etc... So the needle goes from barely moving to dead.
There would still be teams I would like to play, but not enough to switch conferences.

I can see the mwc being interested in utep in that they have a lot in common with the western schools and are in another time zone from the rest of us but I dont see the mwc going the extra 500+ miles east to get utsa. they would be an outlier with nothing in common with the rest of the league and they have no sports history with any of those schools. I think utsa is lucky to be in cusa and will stay there.

The AAC is obviously a no brainer. Other than a more compact regional alignment CUSA offers no real advantage to the Sunbelt. Taking into consideration the money issues our previous AD left us in, the less per school CFP share in CUSA and the new TV contract which is virtually a dead heat with the Sunbelt, there's no way to justify paying the exit and entry fees. Besides, the Sunbelt is a better football league (esp w/o Marshall & USM), virtually the same in men's basketball, far superior in baseball and the women's programs are pretty much a wash.

Far superior in baseball huh? Better in football? Virtually the same in basketball?

Yes. I bolded the sentence where he said that since you're having a hard time finding it.

History says otherwise. CUSA was a top 5 conference in baseball RPI last year. Even with CCU you wouldn't have beat us top to bottom. Ironically basketball is the only one you have results showing you're better and just one season where we completely **** the bed

Welcome to the SBC board but stop, stop, STOP! Nobody in the country whose opinion really matters based upon years served in "the bidness" believes CUSA is a superior conference to the Belt overall, at least not any longer.

As for that "perception is reality" crap I see slung around here all the time, allow me to invite you to google "worst G5 conference poll 2016" where you'll learn there was recently a nationwide survey where 50+% of all respondents chose "CUSA" as number 1 (not in a good way either). Number 2 worst conference (MAC) wasn't even close. The SBC finished above BOTH conferences and just *slightly* below the MWC, whose champ lost to one of our losing teams (yeah, USA). According to many CUSA'ers, this would mean USA is the TRUE Mountain West champ in the same way LA Tech is the TRUE SBC champ.

So yeah, the "perception" of CUSA is that it is the worst major college football conference in these United States of America. You're wasting your time coming over here trying to argue otherwise, but you're welcome to - it's rather entertaining.

Who's talking about perception? I'm talking about results. I was just surprised to see that the perception here was that baseball was far ahead of CUSA when looking back that doesn't seem to be the case. CCU coming in will help. If CUSA gets raided it'll probably hurt FB the most, maybe baseball if Rice and USM leave.
