What do you mean? That we'll be treated special? We have the same rules and requirements as any other DI school - just football is FCS and will start the transition this season. I assume by going to the Sun Belt we will fund COA better for more sports than if we were in the Big South which was only for basketball. That is the conference adopted it for bball and that's all we would do although schools were open to fund more - Liberty fully funded COA for all sports but are one of a few FCE schools to do it.

I don't know. There are some like you that expect immediate results. But I don't think that is the expectation from everyone - hell even the commissioner said it wasn't a football move but an all sports move. But we've been one of the top FCS teams the past few years and pretty successful overall since starting the team in 2013 - no reason to think we can't be a competitive G5 school after a couple of years.

You can't please all the people all time. I imagine their main gripe was another move up which except for Louisiana is a route we all travelled....well except for the complete start ups.

There were people on every board who complained briefly with Coastal's invite, though Panther Talk and Ragin Pagin were by far the most negative. To be fair to the RP folks, they've changed their tune a lot recently, and I think baseball has quite a bit to do with it.

We are fully DI now and comply. Not sure what else would change. Our APRs are pretty strong across the board. Football and basketball APRs improved quite a bit in the past 4-5 years and are at the top of the Big South and would be one of the best in the Sun Belt (although I know football isn't quite apples to apples). In football we have many guys that have graduated early and working on masters degrees or second bacc degrees. Our baseball team had the highest team GPA of the 8 teams in Omaha.

You're not supposed to root for the major conference team. Let alone one that knocked us out.

You'll have more available scholarships than regular FCS so you'll be ineligible for any postseason opportunities.

RE: National Championship Series: Arizona vs Coastal Carolina (Official Thread)
Don't worry about us in football, guys. Take a look at the job Joe Moglia has done with our team since 2012 and you should feel the same confidence we have. We've had double digit wins over the last four years with him, and all of that was done with players who never had stars coming out of high school. Our recruiting class for 2015 was the best we had ever had, and our recruiting class for 2016 blew it away. We had two of the top 12 players in the state of SC commit to us for 2016. We lost our veteran QB this year but have two three star guys set to battle it out.

Granted these players haven't yet played and it's all hype so far. And yes, we know those double digit wins were against FCS opponents. But if you look at what we have accomplished with far less talented players, and much less flashy facilities, you should have enough confidence in us to get the job done with the slew of 3 star guys we are landing. I will tell you that almost everyone over at CoastalFans expects to be in the top half of the Sun Belt within our first few years as a full member. But all of that will just have to wait. Main point is, don't worry, Joe Moglia, President DeCenzo, and AD Matt Hogue have this well under control 03-wink

I guess part of that is coming from the fact that the Sun Belt selected Coastal over NMSU. Or that Tucson is 275 miles from Las Cruces. Normally, I would be with the PAC-12 school. But this is a Sun Belt school against UA. This is a Mid-Major versus a P5 school. This is real difficult to accomplish and I have got to go with the underdog.

Before I add my comment, let me preface it with "I'm glad Coastal Carolina was added" just so that is clear.

The commissioner likely said it wasn't a football move to quell some of the discontent from some league members of the appearance or flavor of taking recent move-ups.

That said, given the importance of getting Coastal in and keeping league soccer intact is not lost on me either.

It is rare the commissioner that keeps all the various constituencies happy. I even suspect if we were in the SEC and he was dumping "X" million a year in revenue on our laps the various fan bases could find something to hold against him.

Yeah, I know - that's why I said we would start the transition this season. It is following the established rules so I didn't go into detail.

I fully expect a hard time with you guys in 2017. Southern loses a ton of offensive weapons that year. Combine that with a new defensive minded hc who is leaving the offense in the hands of David Dean, who is very respected, and Rance Gillespie...the guy who was OC during some less than stellar years at GS, then went on to my high school and using the talent already there had an awesome first year, followed by a few more years of surviving the season/getting bumped out of the playoffs in the first round (except last year). I digress...2016 has as good a chance as being awesome as it does being terrible for us, but 2017 has the potential to be even crazier.

PS...not to completely hate on Gillespie. His first years at both places were pretty good and showed promise of the future. Player development will be better this time around also so I'm cautiously optimistic...just not sold.

Hah, I hear ya.

I do think the focus was not on football. We have a strong all sports program and fit a location need. From Mohajir's comments I'm sure A State were one of the schools that didn't vote for us and I'm sure one of his arguments was we aren't FBS. When we were being considered I heard that some thought we'd drag the conference down in football. I think that is a bad argument but they were trying really hard to get NMSU in. Nothing against the Aggies but I think you made the right choice and we'll be great members of the conference.

Ok, well I stand corrected. Benson is on record that it wasn't a unanimous
vote so at least one school didn't vote for us and A State has been the most vocal for NMSU and pretty much everything else. I've posted before that I think NMSU should have been added as well ...
