You are not a better team. You were definitely better on Saturday though, no doubt. But we finished with a better record and had no losses to FCS or first year FBS programs, so I'd say we have had the better year. And that's with an anemic passing attack.

We're also not soft, just not as good as we were last year. Our defense wasn't soft either, your offense just did a really good job of exploiting mismatches and finding holes. That kind of stuff happens. I was worried about playing back and giving Arbuckle time, because he's really good at picking apart coverages given the time to do it.

In the first half, outside of penalty assisted drives, neither team really did anything. We were doing what we needed to bottle you up and you were doing the same. Second half playcalling, adjustments, and execution made the difference in the game. We did a lackluster job in all areas and you guys did a fantastic job.

Will be looking forward to this game next year. You reap what you sow, and it's obvious that last year we wrote a check we couldn't cash this year. Better hope your team doesn't do the same.

This is the most I've wrote about the game since Saturday, so I just wanted to say again, very good game. Shook a few fans' hands on the way out and they were very pleasant to talk to. The fans in the stands did a great job supporting their team, and I'm sure the team appreciated the efforts of those who made it to Statesboro.

It was probably deserved by the student section, and I won't defend them because I know how bad they can be. I was disappointed to see just how bad the back and forth got on the sidelines without someone getting involved to break it up. Definitely wasn't impressed with Georgia State's players constantly chanting "ATL HOE" either. They definitely backed up all of the talk though, no argument there.

What does [its all about the]ATL [I am calling you a]HOE mean? I honestly have no idea but curious.
In simplest terms

That's really sad then. Your players were outsmarted, out-muscled, and frankly weren't impressive. WE HAD MORE RUSHING YARDS THAN YOU!

You guys have four running backs on the field at any given time and got popped in the mouth repeatedly. We even turned our safeties into linebackers. Fire your offensive coordinator. That gimmick of an offense is finally brought to light.

OR...

We had our post-season destination locked up, had already played our super bowl of the year against UGA, and had been focused all week on our early-announced bowl game. GaState on the other hand has been looking forward to this game since the embarrassment of last season when we couldn't run out the clock because touchdowns kept getting in the way. The GaState players were clearly more "up" for this game, as it was their super bowl, the biggest game of their season, and the biggest game in your programs small history.

Congrats, you won a regular season game. Yay for .500 seasons!

It's really sad that you couldnt get up for this rivalry game at home.

LOL

Just couldn't let that one go.

Also, any conjecture on the fans' part that the team was not "up" for this game is purely that...conjecture. There is no indication that's the case. This is something fans say after losses. Were you people in the locker room or talking to players? There is every indication we were the superior team on Saturday and no tangible indication it was because your players didn't think we were important enough. At a certain point in the second half their team ceased to be "up" for the game, sure, because they were getting slaughtered. That's understandable.

This guy's pulling out all the defense mechanisms. It can't possibly be true to him that Georgia State was simply better.

Look, I know yall are new to this football thing, but being "up" for a game is a thing.

I watched a post-game presentation that i guess your department puts out after each game, and i found it interesting, on there they said something along the lines of that, 9 times out of 10 Southern would win this game, but this was just just that freak 10% of the time when that wasn't the case.

I don't buy that for a second. You can use that argument with close games, or games where the tipping of the ball changes the outcome, but not on a blowout loss like this. We've been manhandling teams since three games before this one, the issue being that they were bad teams, so nobody really knew how we would stack up against a decent team. It turns out, we stack up really well. Now, i don't know if we just have really good run defense and if you had been throwing it around the place (and completing) we'd be screwed, but the fact is, you didn't. And if we played nine more times, you still wouldn't. So i'm gonna go ahead and say, i don't believe us winning was a freak accident. We were the better team, not because of some other outside factors, but because, somehow, half way through this season we managed not just to turn it around and become a better team, but we managed to become a good team. And i think if we played again tomorrow, we'd win again. And you can argue against that if you want, but it would be the most stupid of arguments because literally every team could use it every time they lose to a rival.

RE: Georgia State @ Georgia Southern Discussion
I've seen many Ga State fans say how their team plays better on the road bc they feed off the crowd, and how they aren't as good at home, because visiting teams get so amped up that they are playing in the dome, and treat it as a bowl type game.

Isn't that part of "getting up" for a game?

Georgia Southern has a better record, but Georgia State was simply the better team, and not just that day: they are better than GS moving forward into the bowl game. Earlier in the season you could say GS was better, but from here until the start of next season, GSU has passed GS. It will be tough to replace Arbucle, and I think they could take a step back next year, but or now they are in the catbird seat.

Replacing Nick will be, happily, something we need to worry about on December 20th, but you're right that he is a big reason for the turn-around and not something easily replaced is his talent but more importantly his leadership.

9 returning starters on defense, 8 or 9 on offense. Perhaps GSU has truly "turned the corner" and the past is past.

Look, I know yall are new to this football thing, but being "up" for a game is a thing.

I've lived and breathed college football since birth as a Georgia Tech fan. Of the fans who post on message boards about Georgia State football, very few, if any at all, are "new to this football thing," homey.

I've seen a million excuses just like yours from fans of teams that just got blown out or lost to teams they thought they shouldn't lose to. In your case, both of those conditions were met by that embarrassment on Saturday, so I can understand that you're hurting in a really unique way right now. But each of the million times I've seen that excuse, it's always been the same thing: a load of crap.

I think the real issue is you're realizing that it isn't your birthright as a Southern fan to watch your team put on pads and steamroll everyone. So you resort to inanities like you've been posting. LOL, not being "up" is "a thing"? That's right, champ...it's "a thing" that teams do when they get their butts beat.

You GaSot fans act like you're God's gift to college football and have so much wisdom and insight, yet you're not above spouting fan-think drivel like your team wasn't "up" or didn't care enough about little old Georgia State to worry about things like playing hard or executing. It's hilarious, and surprisingly naive for people who think they understand football better than anyone else.

Whatever makes you feel better, bud.

its certainly possible. we had the same look at App.

If we go another year of so close vs P5s, and poor performances vs App and Arky, then yeah...im with ya.

These are mostly Monkens players recruited for a pure TO offense. Fritz should get a talent bump here in the next year or so once they start being able to get starting jobs. I'm optimistic, but if the performances in big games don't improve into Ws then I'm on board with trying something or someone else.

Last I checked, coaching staffs are part of teams. They tend to have a big say in the outcomes of games. If your coaching staff didn't do its job, I'd say that makes Georgia Southern a worse team than perhaps you thought. Georgia State's coaches had their players playing at a high level of intensity and executing nearly flawlessly, thus improving the quality of Georgia State's team. Do you agree that's how it works?

We're going back and forth with the very few GaSot fans, to the rest of the group's credit, who can't really admit defeat even in defeat. Most everybody else realized a lot of Southern's bad play was caused by GSU athletes making plays and great gameplanning.

Ga State was better that day. Because our guys weren't up.

Where did you see this post-game presentation?

Well?
