In 2015, stAte (1st SBC) is 5th if you compare the conferences. App is 7th and GaSouthern is 9th... Hell, North Texas (last in CUSA) outdrew ULM, Idaho, and GaState (a bowl team for crying out loud)...

I'm just wondering on what information did you base your conclusion?04-cheers

I was basing my argument over the teams based in south florida, since that is what we were talking about. I would prefer GaSo and App over two teams in south Florida, even the "U" gets no support in south Florida. I would rather play in front of 15k real people, then 15k invisible people.

Okay, but you do realize that both drew over 15,000 right (FAU 17,617 and FIU 15,381)? Or are you saying butts in seats vs. stadium capacity? And I'm not sure I'd say The U doesn't get any support (they averaged over 46,000) UNLESS you are saying that 46000 sucks for a P5, then I agree. 04-cheers

Of all the schools that left the SBC I miss WKU and Middle, the Cajuns had great times with both teams..

If you are a football fan in south Florida and want to go to a game, Miami always has tickets available and you get to see ACC football. Let's not forget Miami has had presidents, recently, that have discussed shutting their program down. You aren't going to go to an F_U game as a casual fan. And they claim 15k, but those folks are mostly invisible.

However, if you are in south central Ga and want to go watch football, best show around is GaSo, so they pick up casual fans. Bigger chance for a bigger audience. And the people in the stands there, are real, actual fannies in the seats. But we can argue attendance all day, and get no where.

RE: My Suggestion for Expansion: Raid CUSA (seriously)
I know it is difficult but let's set aside ego because the reality is CUSA 3.x is worth essentially what the Sun Belt is to television. The 3.x CUSA is generating NCAA units at the same pace as Sun Belt 4.x

Take CUSA East. Those seven plus UAB, Ga.St, GaSo, App, and one of the Sun Belt Alabamas is a compact conference with a nice mix of "markets" and schools passionate about football and schools passionate about hoops. Such an alignment would infuse CUSA East with another major market, would solidify ties with bowls within the region, would cut travel costs, would place the league in several major football recruiting areas and provide schools that can have fans in the stands to present the conference on television as relevant.

Any CUSA fan (other than maybe Charlotte or UAB) objecting to replacing CUSA West schools as their conference mates is detached from the reality of the situation.

For Western I only want us to play football and basketball at a high level. No I have no visions of moving up but a high level of WINNING.

There is still perceptions that some conferences are higher than others. But we all are looked down on like the neighbor who finds a loophole and moves his doublewide onto the lot next to a million dollar home.

I think it's safe to say just about all schools 100 miles west of the Mississippi and especially TX schools would rather be with other schools like them. The same holds true to eastern schools.

I personally like the TX schools and LA schools because they (fans) don't have that turned up nose look to them when talking to us poor southern schools...

So I'm OK with having a school or two from as far Away as the eastern part of Texas. Or as far south as San Antonio. Just not four.

If that's the case why are their dollars dropping?

Tickets sold
2015 $1,057,398
2014 $1,086,185
2013 $1,179,454
2012 $1,067,476

Looks to me no casual fans are seeing GASO as the best show around...those numbers look like GASO has reached the best they will do. That is year in year out. They have a lot smaller pool to draw from. So any additional ticket revenue will come from higher prices.

I understand your concept but a concept and happening are not the same. I see it as if the day comes and it very well could and FIU starts winning they have a lot more room to grow their fanbase. It might not ever happen but the concept is there

But yes watching a game at GASO is most likely more exciting than at FIU...at least for that 3 hour window.

The population changes and GS is in an area (at least outside of Savannah which is 30 minutes away) that is rapidly growing. Statesboro is also expanding. The numbers are flat (I'm actually shocked there wasn't a drop in 2013 during the construction of the upper deck). The money may not being showing an increase, but we are seeing increased attendance. We currently average ~21k a game our max is ~25k. The students fill in about 8k of those seats (sometimes over 10k). What is hurting us is the lack of home games that can draw a big crowd and encourage people to buy season tixets (at least Saturday home games). This year we only have 5 home games and only 3 are on Saturday. Not a good combo for getting people to buy season tickets. Also, our prices are relatively low since GS fans are notorious for being cheap skates (you should see the heck that was raised when prices changed and what is happening with basketball prices now). We've been spoiled on doing more with less. If anyone in the SBC is in danger of going down I would say GS is possibility.
BUT we are seeing an increase in donations, season tickets are going up slowly, more students and increased local population, increased sponsors, and merchandising. We just finished phase one of stadium expansion so it probably won't be for a few more years before we expand again (Our current A.D. said we won't even entertain the idea until we reach 10K season ticket sales). But also, we desperately need a new basketball facility so that is another major expense.

Sorry started to get off track.
Basically I see what you're saying, but each school has its own issues to deal with. App and GS both have potential to grow in FBS. No we don't have actual seats, but still can grow our season ticket numbers to justify an expansion. We are more of the mindset to keep demand high and not expand too quickly. We have smaller projects in the works (new turf just installed, next is lighting). There is a lot of room for GS to grow.

I'd like to bring UAB, USM & La Tech from the West and according to their fans the first two at least would prefer to go east if there was a split. I don't think any such reshuffle will happen though.

I would much rather attend a game where there are 18,000 fans over 1500 with 40% of those your fans . The excitement and energy level you get watching a college football game in person can't be matched with 1500 fans. Just as it can't be matched watching on TV or the internet.

It's why we will make a 15 hour drive, well the beaches help there but even making a 10 hour drive to ULM to watch Western play a football game is worth it because watching football in person can't be matched on TV.

Hell my wife and I sit through a monsoon for 2 hours at FIU. Even got caught on TV emptying out about 2 inches of rain from my shoes. So yes I would rather watch a game at GASO than FIU...not even close

College football played in a stadium 75% to 100% full is a energy rush that is hard to match. Well other than those last 60 seconds of...

If they have and we are at 10, we can add two schools with no change to the amount of CFP given to each school. After 12 the conference gets no more money per school.

With that, and the BIG 12 talking expansion again, lots of changes coming. If the BIG 12 raids the AAC, and the AAC turns and raids CUSA, then we should raid.

I'm gonna say something I never thought I would, but AAC would be wise to take UAb. UAb deserves a better basketball conference, they are drowning in what is left of CUSA. And with the media coverage of football restarting, the AAC would benefit from both programs.

If UAb were to go, the SBC needs to grab USM!!! If that were to happen, the CUSA would crumble. May be able to take Marshall on the same day.

Now we need a commissioner to make it happen.

USM and Marshall are looking to move up, not laterally or down. You have to also remember that the timing of the contract with CUSA had a lot to do with diminishing returns. Contracts with conferences have been over valued and as each contract comes up for renewal, it is likely they will all, or mostly, be for less money, at least for the G5.

Contracts with conferences have been over valued and as each contract comes up for renewal, it is likely they will all, or mostly, be for less money, at least for the G5.

Pretty sure it's just you guys. But hey, feel free to use the TV Bubble bursting as an excuse.

So tell me again when is espn going to address the SBC contract? I thought you said soon? Or this year? So is that been put off? I'm sure I read something about this...right? Or do I just need to search for it. I'm positive you and a few other were saying just last season that espn was going to reevaluate the SBC's contract for MORE money...

Didn't I see that from you?

I haven't really kept up, but I have read that CUSA and ESPN are currently negotiating, or at least discussing, a contract which would be in addition to whatever contracts with other networks CUSA currently has. I have no idea what the monetary value would be.

We have a look in that we can exercise at any time. Otherwise, our contract expires in 2020. League chose a couple years ago to wait on exercising our look-in until we had a stable conference membership.
