#ACC football coaches just met for 2 hrs. today to talk about key issues that will be discussed more in depth tomorrow.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall and see the dynamics of how the different coaches interact with each other in front of peers but without media in the room.

Orlando Sentinel reporter on Twitter is quoting Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson saying he is in favor of removing the ACC's current restriction on satellite camps. Clawson says that the ACC might take up the matter at a future meeting.

They may feel that they can't do anything about divisions/scheduling yet because the NCAA rules won't be changed for another couple of months (at the earliest). That would put off any changes (to that part) until the next ACC meeting (in 3 months).

(doesn't it just KILL you to have to wait on stuff?)

The ACC can absolutely alter the current setup while remaining in divisions, without the cg autonomy passing, remaining at 8-game schedules and increasing the frequency in which the divisions face each other.

Well, the CAN do SOMETHING, but not much. Since current NCAA rules require playing all teams in your own division, that means in the case of FSU, the only things the ACC can do are:
1) change the divisions - obviously that effects every other team in the conference, especially the team(s) moved.
2) change the 1 rotating cross-over opponent.

I know you want divisions changed - you stated your preference over a hundred times - but you have to realize that EVERY team is affected by that move.

RE: ACC Meetings underway
That is NOT what I said. I've long been onboard a train that didn't involve a GT "swap" for whomever in the Atlantic. So no need to make false accusations. You clearly missed the part where I said "INCREASING THE FREQUENCY IN WHICH THE DIVISIONS FACE EACH OTHER."

What I've made clear is my desire to face teams more often, as has EVERYBODY on this board.

You can do 4 pods (2x3, 2x4) and switch them every two years. You face EVERYONE in your division. You KEEP the crossover. And you play teams in the other division at least THREE TIMES as often.

There is nothing in the rulebook saying your divisions must be static. That has already been discussed on this board.

RE: ACC Meetings underway
My point remains true: There IS absolutely an alignment change that can be made NOW to enhance all teams' schedules. But Swofford doesn't have the leadership ability to implement such a change, so it seems.

#ACC ADs looking for way to play opponents in opposite division more frequently & protect their permanent crossovers (like #FSU vs. #UM)

Spot on Marge, but I don't think this is ALL on Swofford. I think the large % of blame if this doesn't get done falls on the AD's and coaches. There is no excuse for U of L not playing Miami, VT, PITT, etc more. The number of matchups that would be good for TV and the league would be incredible.

RE: ACC Meetings underway
Ok, maybe this is too simple an idea, but since Carolina and Wake Forest are meeting in the future...

And outside of the anticipated objections from my esteemed colleage, Marge (and possibly, Ragu)...

Why can't FSU and Georgia Tech get together with the folks who run the Kickoff Classics and schedule a season-opening game?

Or...

Why can't FSU and Georgia Tech think outside the box and, you know, schedule a home-and-home series...? Such a game does not have to impact the conference standings (I know, I hear the objections, blah, blah), but my point still stands.

Games vs. Notre Dame don't impact the standings, but they DO impact the ACC's visiblity, and I'm willing to believe a home-and-home series between FSU and GT would also affect "ACC Brand" visibility...

---

I bet as soon as Paul Johnson is no longer head ball coach in Atlanta and Georgia Tech is no longer running the Flexbone Spread, I bet we'll see some movement to increase the frequency of play between the two.

RE: ACC Meetings underway
We've been over this a million times before. Scheduling an out of conference game vs an in conference opponent is beyond stupid.

You shouldnt have to sacrifice out of conference flexibility because this crap conference doesnt properly use its football inventory.

That out of conference is what FSU needs to get their schedule up because the ACC is weak.. That is why going forward there will be another premier game besides UF along with the needed junk opponent and average opponent for money for home games (which all teams do).

Plus GT isnt the only problem. FSU would also rather play VT and UNC over Wake, Syracuse and BC every year. There is no way that BC/Cuse every year makes more sense than FSU play GT, VT and UNC more.

Let's see if the ACC actually cares about using it's inventory to make the best matchups and most money. Would highly shock me if they thought progressively for once.....

Because Florida State wants Georgia Tech but the love is unrequited.

I can't make any sense of the Atlantic and Coastal divisions, at all.

It seems to me that the composition of the divisions change for baseball, football, etc... Am I correct?

What sense does that make? Why not keep them static, uniform and....a known and predictable thing?

I don' think that the SEC, Big Ten and Pac 12 change their divisions due to the sport being played.

I really have no idea what schools are in what divisions for what sports, and I have looked several times at the standings (but not recently).

They're exactly the same divisions, ND just takes SU's place. And that's just what I googled in 5 minutes. 05-stirthepot
