Sun Belt ADs calling out CUSA for avoiding tough games
First it was Mojhair, now Kleinline from Ga Southern is calling out CUSA for avoiding us. Kleinline says after beating Florida and leading GT and NCSU until the last minute, CUSA ADs don't want a part of any game with us. Smart strategy as when it comes time to select the G5 representative in the bowl, he can say publicly asked for a game with Marshall etc and instead they scheduled Akron.

Ga Southern is on record saying any G5, anytime. Bring it on. No doubt the committee will respect that after seeing how much they hated Marshall's schedule last year.

GS swept the Sun Belt and lost late on the road against NC State and Georgia Tech. If not for the NCAA's rule against first-year FBS teams making the postseason, the Eagles were a handful of plays away from a challenging for a spot in the New Year's Six bowl rotation, which went to Boise State.

Post-Florida GS is an in-demand opponent for top-tier FBS programs looking for one-off wins. They hand GS a paycheck near $1 million and they (likely) get a quality non-conference win for the Playoff committee. But try getting a team to Statesboro.

"It absolutely helped the mission of this university and this program, but from a scheduling perspective, Florida hurt us," Kleinlein said. "I’d love for people to call me and schedule our school. No one wants to right now."

"I’ve got a list of teams with openings. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve emailed ‘em, called ‘em and heard, 'Oh well, we’ve got some things in the works.'
That’s funny. I’m talking to Dave Brown at ESPN, who controls scheduling, and he doesn’t have you as having a game scheduled."

"I got all the Oklahomas and Clemsons and LSUs I can shake a stick at. It’s that second tier; it’s the Mountain West or C-USA school. I listen to ADs talk about being strapped for money. I say great, let me play you home-and-home. Don't pay us anything, and we'll bring at least 5,000 fans. Nope. They want no part of it."

Would it not be more forum-appropriate for GSU Eagles to post this on the C-USA forum?05-stirthepot

Seems like he is calling out all of the other G5 leagues and not just CUSA.

That's the spirit... make public enemies out of teams to ensure they won't go out of their way to schedule you or return your calls. All schools have others that will not schedule them or return calls (I can think of a G5 school now that is very unreceptive to playing USA)... but I wouldn't poke the hornet's nest and make public enemies of the ADs.

He said MWC and CUSA. Since MWC is across the country and CUSA is in the SBC footprint, he was mostly calling out CUSA.

This...kinda ridiculous. If they're not scheduling the worst G5 conference then they must be scheduling conferences perceived as better. No harm in that. Give me AAC teams all day over CUSA or mac.

I bet over the last 5 years or so that the Belt has dominated C-USA in football.

Bottom line is that as of today, they are avoiding top sbc teams. For the Ark St and GS ad to say it means something.

Hard to gauge since a large segment of CUSA was in the SBC during that time.

Does.Not.Matter

We play the games that are dealt us regardless of what conference we might or might not be a member of at some future date.

And having said that, I can GUARANTEE that the SunBelt is stronger today with Georgia Southern and App State than it was with the UNTs and the F_Us.

Who cares? Are we scheduling the top of the AAC and mwc? Why take the probable loss on top of the 2 body bag games. I see no problem with not wanting to schedule the top of the SBC. La tech scheduled us and we saw how that turned out. Yall read too much into things soemtimes.

Losing middle and WKU hurt a lot and we picked up georgia state, NMSU and Idaho. Seems like an even trade. And I think you're the only Cajun fan that wants to remain in the belt. Are you even a Cajun fan?
