Not every single year. We want to play in New Orleans because our one New Orleans Bowl was played in scenic Lafayette, LA at our own personal house of horrors. We want the opportunity to play in NOLA.

However, most ASU fans will tell you that we would not have traveled well to New Orleans this year, and I'm not the only one who has talked about preferring the Alabama based bowls if Nola continues to kick off at 10:00 in the morning.

Chief the time has varied every year. Take it up with ESPN

2. (Tie) New Orleans: Location is great. I'm not a fan of the day or the matchup. Playing a mediocre MAC or mediocre CUSA school isn't my example of great opponent, but hey, its worked for ULL.

2. (Tie) Montgomery: Crazy enough, this is the closest of the 4 bowls to Arkansas State, and if they keep it at night, its the best travel situation for our fans. We probably as a fan base travel better here than we do to New Orleans. Yeah the stadium and opponent may stink, but we are talking about a Bowl game here...is there such thing as a bad one?

4. Orlando: Obviously Orlando is a fun place to play a game, but I have serious concerns with the level of AAC opponent we get. Its not like they are going to send their champ to play the 4th pick of the SBC Bowls (Meaning little chance at the champ unless Idaho wins the SBC) If we're playing a UCF...awesome. If we're playing Temple...Meh

Do you know what # conference opponent were scheduled to play in each bowl? Like MACs #1 in go daddy, etc? Or do they not go by that anymore?

Generally so, but not for certain because of all the G5 leagues, only CUSA has requirements set for each bowl before they can select. Rest of the leagues give bowls the power.

We do know pecking order though.

Go Daddy has 1st choice of MAC opponent. They can and have worked with the MAC In the past to allow the champ to a different bowl. But they cherish the idea of champ vs champ game.

New Orleans is a mixed bag, but you're looking at the 4th or 5th pick out of the MWC or CUSA. Though CUSA often places teams with the bowls.

Montgomery cannot pick until after Go Daddy, Boise, and Millitary Pick for the MAC. I believe they split last pick with Bahamas/MAC Bowl Rotation.

Cure has yet to pick, but one can be certain that the AAC will want to send its top teams out to its tie ins with P5 leagues. That bowl may end up with last pick of AAC schools unless they have some sort of deal that allows them to pick UCF early if the Knights are available.

Miami/Bahamas will likely have a 7 win type team out of CUSA/AAC/MAC

There's really no contest in terms of quality of opponent. We're talking 10 win MAC vs 6-7 win team from another G5 league.

It's really unfortunate the quality of opponents we play outside of the GDB. I guess it gives us a better chance to win, but it sucks playing the MWC 6 or 7 best team this year in the NOB. Is there any way we can get better G5 opponents for our bowls or are we stuck?

You would need to win over an established bowl with a solid history to do it.

For instance, Go Daddy gets MAC #1 because they are an established bowl game that has been in existence for quite a while, and has had a long relationship with the MAC. We just happened to take advantage of a Falling out between Go Daddy and CUSA and got the other tie in. (I think a team didn't want to play in Mobile for a bigger game, and CUSA supported the team.)

New Orleans, Montgomery, and Cure are all bowl games created partially by the SBC to help our own bowl tie in situation. We may have found a partner league, but in reality that league did it because they needed a 5th or 6th tie in, while we did it because we needed a 2nd tie in.

The way to do that is to get our lazy commissioner off the golf course long enough to set up a backup deal with a regional bowl, and then wait for that bowl to have a falling out with a league, and be prepared to jump right in.

I'll let you know when King Karl gets on that.

You are correct. I cant remember the actual years but I do remember the sequence.

Year one - Mobile Bowl picks TCU. They were extremely ungracious guests, and the school directed its fans to stay at casinos in Biloxi.

Year two - Mobile Bowl picks Louisville (ranked in the top 10). Louisville desperately tried to get out of the game. The Bowl people said that if you don't send Louisville, we will pick a replacement from another conference. They sent Louisville, sullenly.

Year three - TCU was the best pick available to the Bowl. The Bowl picked them (and packed the incentives with hotels in Mobile), and they turned down the Bowl. Then got their sports writers in the Fort Worth paper to write a bunch of smack about the town and the Bowl. They played in a new bowl in their own stadium. Predictably, the weather stunk for the game (I think they had an ice storm).

That was it between the Bowl folks and CUSA.

RE: Rank the 2015 bowls
Back on topic.

1) Go Daddy - usually a good matchup - fan accessibility is obvious for us.
2) NO Bowl - New Orleans is fun and an easy 2.5 hour drive away.
3) Camellia Bowl - Another 2.5 hour drive.
4) Cure Bowl - Its a longish drive (7.5 hours) but doable.

While in New Orleans I heard it said that the NO Bowl this year would have been the night game if the Saints didn't have a noon game Sunday against the Falcons. The dome personnel told the bowl there was no way to prep the field with a game starting at 8pm so they shifted the games around. Just what I heard, don't know if it's accurate.

Coming from a GS/personal perspective.
Best: Access Bowl/Peach Bowl. 02-13-banana

1. Cure Bowl. Great location and opponent (don't care if it's the 6th place AAC team, all people will know is that it is an AAC team).

2. NO Bowl. location, location, location. If the other conference wants to send fodder to the game, then we'll take the win.

3. Go Daddy. Mobile is a nice place and would be great to hit casinos and maybe go fishing in the gulf. Playing the MAC champs would be a perk.

4. Montgomery. Not a great location, eh opponent, farther to travel, but hey if we got an invite I'd try my best to be there.

5. ???? need one out west. Would be nice to have a tie-in with the HOD or maybe a new one. This hypothetical bowl would rank higher for TxSt and the other western teams.

Just to let you know, but the best fishing in the World is a 1 hour drive south of New Orleans.

1.Cure Bowl
2 .New Orleans Bowl
3. Godaddy Bowl
4. Camellia Bowl

We need new tie inns for our opponents in the sunbelt bowls!

Cure Bowl is great American Vs sunbelt is a good match up and will sell tickets!

New Orleans needs to be low tiered BIG12 vs Sunbelt. Other any Tulane and Southern Miss when they played troy and ULL its has been pretty lonely on the visitor side. Lets face it nobody wants to play Ohio, Nevada, or San Diego St. when they bring hundreds of fans and the sunbelt bring in thousands of fans!

Camellia Bowl needs to be Pac 12 vs Sunbelt! Yes that's right PAC 12! There is only like 20,000 somethings seats. The sunbelt will blow that place up and they will buy any other Pac 12 that are not sold!

Go Daddy is good with a Mac or a CUSA team playing the belt!

We need a bowl for our western teams vs the mountain west

You realize there isnt a chance in Hades that the PAC 12 would ever accept a tie in against the SBC right?

The Cure bowl will at best be the #6 pick for AAC. AAC has 7 primary tie ins next year and 8 tie ins every year after that (plus 3 backups). The top 5 AAC bowls have to be filled first, per the AAC website, before the others, including the Cure can be filled. Most of the top 5 AAC bowls have "P5" opponents. This year the AAC played 4 P5 opponents and BYU. Anyway, the bowls that must be filled first the Military vs. ACC, Birmingham vs. SEC, St Pete vs. ACC or CUSA, Miami Beach vs. BYU and/or rotating conferences, and either the Armed Forces vs. the B12, or Hawaii vs. MWC.

I do think you'll be playing either UCF or USF at least half of the time, though. If UCF isn't at the top of the conf. you could very well see them in year one. You could also see a good opponent like ECU or Navy occasionally.
