RE: Heard today that Camilla Bowl encouraged Ga. Southern to seek waiver
I just want to make it a perfect 8-0 in the conference and finish a great season on a high note. We got more media exposure this year than All 6 I-AA NC's ever got us put together. I've thoroughly enjoyed the season.

Complaints are getting hammered by a Navy team running Ga Southern's offense and the 5 or 6 message board Bozo's who account for a majority of posts from our fan base and represent us poorly.

I think the along with the Cure bowl next year, the Christmas Bowl in LA will happen next year. The SBC should try to get a Back-up slot since the odds are it will go to the P12 and MWC. If the bowl in Little Rock could happen having the SB and CUSA or MAC, that would be ideal for you all.

UALR just fired the guy who was in charge of that game. It will be up to their new AD to decide whether the game is worth it.

This has nothing to do with corruption. They agreed to the rules when they went FBS.

The reason the rule was created in the first place is questionable at best, only to protect the interests of a few, not what is good for a school wanting to improve, or what's best for the student athletes.

Ga S and Appy deserve to go through the transitional process just like any other move up . . . . . FIFY . . .

I understand the rule. Doesn't mean it is a good rule that has any merit in today's Football landscape, I am talking just on football merit and play.

The NCAA is a morally bankrupt institution, and talking about their stupid, ineffective bureacratic procedures is just dreadful btw!

PS - don't fret - Texas State deserves a shot too!

The rule was asked for by FCS.
Along with changes to FBS membership standards to discourage schools like App and Georgia Southern moving to FBS.

If that is the reason, the rule even dumber than I already thought. Is a two year postseason ban really going to discourage a school from moving up? No. Therefore all it is doing is punishing schools for no real reason.

Exactly! The interests of the few who desperately want status quo and as little inclusion and $ sharing as possible.

Except we have a better overall record.

I know you guys replaced "our" FCS game with a P5 game, but do you really think the bowl committees care about that?

If the idea is to be entertaining, South Alabama does not qualify. In their five losses, they have scored one touchdown and that was in garbage time against Arkansas State. They are last in scoring in the SBC. Sure, they have six wins and two of the three bowl games are in Alabama. But they are not a good offensive team. Texas State has scored at least one TD in every game. At least we will be entertaining.

So the Idaho, NMSU, TxSt and App St will never get a fair shake in the deal unless they win the conference championship. For us it's a good thing and a bad thing as long as the NOB chooses first. I kind of wish we had a tie breaker and if we have four bowls than the top four get to go in no particular order of selection.

Why wouldn't App and Texas St get a fair shake? Are you only basing this on proximity to the bowl locations?

No way would Arkansas State and TxSt send 40,000+ fans to the NOB.

That is probably true but there are many many bowl games that have lower attendance than 40,000. It is about the ability of the network to hype the matchup and sell ad time. It is just a fact of life that our conference has a limited national presence. something we need to work on.

The request for the waiver and petition are nice for publicity and generating some potential debate for discussion by the talking heads. Hopefully more so now with Apps potential denial. Looking on the bright side we avoid a potential let down with a bowl loss and may enjoy some nice shoutouts during all bowls with Sun Belt tieins. Surely with GS's and Apps performance there's more buzz surrounding the Sun Belt going forward.

Another positive for GS and App doing well is that it will result in bowls wanting agreements with the SBC. The bowls with CUSA and MAC deals would much rather have App and GS in a bowl than FAU/FIU/Akron/Western Michigan etc. And that is especially true for the Florida bowls where it is only a 5 hour drive for GS. I would imagine App would also travel well to Florida. It will be interesting to see what happens as the current bowl contracts expire.

He's still working with the stadium commission on the project.

Will we get more bowl options when the CFP moves to 8 teams? (which it will in the near future I think due to the numerous teams who are going to whine because they didn't get in...) Isn't that the reason the belt got more this year?

Nope. SBC has 3 this year and will have 4. They may get one more simply due to other conferences not being able to fulfill their Though I didn't realize bowl allotments were done based on past averages. Very similar to how many teams from each soccer league are selected for UEFA champion league tournament.

The number of bowl tie ins is limited by the average of bowl eligible teams over like the past five years. But that is DIRECT bowl tie ins. No limit on secondary bowl tie-ins (for example, if say... Big XII can't fill X bowl, the first place they look is their secondary bowl tie-in).

But the bigger problem is just because the number of tie-ins is limited on the maximum, it's not limited by the minimum. Benson needs to be out there early talking about how we'll end up with 6 bowl teams and in the next year or 3... we want to fill Y bowl.

Then we need to have good attendance at every bowl we go to (unreasonable to expect NOLA type numbers, but 10-15k should be the expectation), so that we can show potential new bowls that regardless of who is invited, we'll be showing up in force and be a good pick.

2 years ago we had fantastic numbers at NOLA, Go Daddy and Independence. WKU didn't travel well to Detroit in a blizzard but that was expected. Last year good #s for Nola and Go Daddy. If we got 4 teams in this year (TX State in a Texas bowl) I think the conference could make another statement with great numbers. If we could get 1 more tie in in the Dallas region for 5 and that would be fantastic. TX St. stAte,ULM and UL would all travel well to Dallas. SBC can do a lot better on regional bowls than inviting a MAC or MWC. I hope the conference lobbies for a 5th bowl in Texas when a contract comes up.

You know, a bowl tie in around the North Texas area could also be a bargaining chip to UTA to help push them towards adding football again.
