This world would be a very boring and terrible place if everyone just remained content with their circumstances. I'll be the first to admit I shook my head a little bit when I first saw the petition; however, it doesn't surprise me at all.

While I DO think our football program has historically been one to "break the mold" I doubt there is another team in this conference that wouldn't have a fan try something like this in the same circumstances.
Maybe, but asking other fans of schools who you would be screwing is asinine and trite.

So you are just concerned that we are going to take your slot?

I guess that's a fair concern. Although there is a whole list of junk rules that we are trying to avoid, like 6-7 teams going in from of us or a bunch of 6-6 teams. And Doesn't the conference have to agree to allow certain teams to be invited?

Hey, I'm fine with the SBC taking the stance of not allowing any of it's contracts to be filled by us.

But instead, filling slots that other Bowls need. before they go and take 6-6 teams.

We aren't trying to screw anyone over. But on the other hand, if we beat your team on the field, go undefeated in this conference... TWO BIG CHALLANGES AHEAD...
And win the title out right.. (Come on APP STATE over UL!)... Then how do you consider it is right that we sit home and not go to a bowl?

I know, I know.. we knew the crappy rule existed. It should be changed.

I am absolutely fine with giving App and GaSo the opportunity to win the championship (before the season). I absolutely hated what happened to UCA with the Southland in that regard. And also will defend GaSo (or anyone else) having a conference championship this year with NO ASTERISK.

But I am very tired of the rules suddenly becoming "guidelines" when the rules become inconvenient to someone.

RE: A little help from our Belt brothers?
You are actually gonna hurt the sunbelt by getting the rule changed. If enough teams aren't bowl eligible you have a shot at getting a waiver and becoming the 4th sunbelt team to get a bowl. If the waiver is granted you will either get one of the 3 bowls that we are contracted in, or you will still get left out because I promise you the Cajuns and StAte aren't getting left out, because we each have a great relationship with 2 of the tie ins and you would most likely be trying to take a bowl game hosted in alabama from a team in alabama. This isn't the playoffs, the sooner georgia southern fans understand that, your transition to fbs will be much easier. It's about money, and if the bowl thinks a 6-6 USA will make them more money than a 10-2 GS...guess where GS will be? At home

Yup. we were the team that took UCA's place in 2008; with one less win and we went to the playoffs. I remember other FCS teams being in an uproar over the whole thing....and that included GS fans. It was their last year of transition and SLC did not allow them to claim the title and they were still ineligible for post season. (UCA still has always had our number and I bet we never schedule them again.)

In that scenario, UCA could not claim the conference title. Live with what you are doing and deal with the reality of the current structure.

As for TXST, I am not going to go out for a team that wants something we worked hard for, for 4+ years to get to. We weren't good in FCS but are working to build something in FBS. If you think we want to sacrifice a Bowl slot for GS...think again. We got left out last year and don't want to see that happen again if we get to 7 wins.

I think there are some rules that are so without merit or sense that they should be undermined and treated with complete contempt. Should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. I'm not saying this fits that category, but just that sometimes it isn't that simple.

Also, from a moral standpoint, it's not like we we're singing one tune a year ago and now we've completely changed our minds because of changing circumstances. A lot of our fans believed we could get to 6 wins this year and weren't happy with the rule. We'd look awfully silly making noise about this before we played a down as an FBS team, no?

If the rule was so without merit you should have balked prior to play commencing....or when it affected others.

Do not try to make this a moral issue when you only started petitions when it started to affect you.

I fully support your effort in regard to changing the rules for the 2015 season.

Well with a rule change or not - we still get the waiver if not enough teams reach 6 wins. So there is that.

But otherwise, we don't hurt the belt if they change the rule. Because if enough still don't qualify, that means not enough belt teams made it. And if they did, they would be considered for the open slots.
Besides, if all the slots are filled and we were to go in a Belt slot - that doesn't change how many belt teams went. It just sends the Belt champion to a bowl (again we have to win out to make this really work).

And I'm FINE with it coming down to a 6-6 USA or us. All we are asking for is the chance to be considered. If our traveling fan base from a hyped up 10-2 , conference championship year cant reach the amount of traveling fans from a drum 6-6 usa team, then we don't deserve the invite.

Huh? That doesn't make any sense. You think we wouldn't want to get out of the burning building that is the SoCon just because of the possibility of bearing the brunt of a stupid rule? We could be bowl ineligible for 3 years and it would still be worth the move.

Funny thing is, our fans get blasted for having the audacity to suggest a winning season is within the realm of possibility but now we're being told we only disagree with the rule because it's hurting us.

Again, I don't necessarily agree with amending the rules in the middle of the year, but let's not make this out to be something that it isn't.

Not going to debate whether the rule is without merit, but I think the reason for the rule is that some transitional teams could have players that would not be elible to play at other FBS schools because of the transfer rules.

That is just a guess though

You are not the only team eligible for waivers. If you get the waiver at the end you would be eligible to take someone else slot, if you get it now the sunbelt will only have 3 teams bowling. I know this is hard for you to grasp, but the bowls aren't sitting around waiting to see what the sunbelt and georgia southern are doing. The sunbelt will fill their 3 bowl slots, if there are not enough eligible teams at the end, your name will go in with all the other names who apply for waivers. The bowls with open slots will look at who they think will make them the most money and take those teams. You should praying that a bowl really close to you falls short. Ironically you would be trying to take a possible spot from USA..a team that that served tougher transition rules than you have.

Not really. It's called paying your dues. GS fans really have hard time with that. Your time will come. Maybe even this year. Of course you should do it under the same rules other teams used. Texas St. and others paid those dues. What makes you special. Nothing.

Then that should be fixed rather than punish all the players on the transitional team.

I am for making them all into an FBS immediately with no transition.

After a rule change next year.

You'll also have to forgive me because I don't think 6-6 and 7-5 teams (unless they've somehow won a share of a conference title) deserve to play in anything that signifies a post-season. It really annoys me how many bowl games exist.
