That looks awfully familiar. Like what the other divisions and FCS do.

I won't live to see that happen.

I like that model, I could see the football equivalent of March Madness bracket pools now. There wouldn't be as many upsets as March, and I don't think this marginalizes the regular season either. You have to think that this would generate more money than the current system. I could see the Bowls not liking this, since it basically makes them obsolete.

posted something similar on the GSUfans board. I just think that yours is to many rounds. Less teams and rounds is needed. start off with a play-in round with the G5 champs vs best of the rest (non P5 champs). Then the winners go on to play the P5 Champs. It would work better if it was a G4 and P4, but I'm sure that it could be done.

Love the idea, just needs a little tweaking.

You could still have the "invitational bowl" system for the schools that don't make the title playoff. You are still going to have dozens of teams with 6-6 or better records looking for a little post season.

You could have the equivalent of a football version of the NIT and CBA tournys.

Would there be reseeding between rounds in your scenario??? We would need to go back to 11 game seasons, and start the playoffs a week earlier. Wouldn't want or need college football to run into the second or third week of January.

Correct.

The non-BCS bowls would serve as a football version of the NIT.

Right, but this would separate them like how the NIT is from the NCAA. It would still be a post season, but any prestige it had would be stripped.

They're already obsolete. They mean nothing other than 35 teams get to end their season with one more loss.

It was a lot cooler back in the day with less bowls and less teams and only the best of the best got in to the 8 major games.

Somewhere in there, between my being a teen and having teens myself, we got into this "everybody gets a trophy" (or rewarded for playing) and the # of games increased until we are where we are today and it just keeps getting worse. Every Tom, Dick and Harry Corporation wants a pie of the pie and they'll take any team that qualifies just to make extra bucks.
It also got this way because of the BC$ shutting out the conferences they deemed unworthy on the major stage.

I realize a lot of you on here were born into this "everybody gets a shot" era but I'm old school and I am on the bandwagon of only rewarding the best. Take it down to 1 sponsored bowl per conference. With 2 teams from each going being able somewhere. I know, I'm delusional and it would never happen because the P5 would have a herd of cows but at least I can post my POV. Or, how about getting rid of them all together and just using the bowls as playoff venues.

Keeping Bowls with a full playoff system is just an extension of the everybody gets a trophy mentality (the wussing of America)

I think within the next 4-6 years you will see an 8 team playoff with the champions of each of the P5 conferences getting in and 3 "at large selections." I don't know if it will go beyond that. I wish it were different but I believe the P5 will make sure no team from the G5 gets in.

There will be nothing more than a 16 team playoffs. I like 10 auto bids and 6 at large - with the losers of the first two rounds invited to existing New Years or later bowls.

There used to be far more bowls than there are today - teams from all levels played in post season bowls of a wide variety of sizes. App State played in multiple bowls as an NAIA team.

Championship games for lower divisons were Bowl games. TXST (SWT) has 2 Palm Bowl appearances but they were NAIA championships.

I agree with your mentality CatMom.

However, I do think there will always be room for bowls like the Cotton, Chick-Fil-A, Alamo, Outback , Music City and a few others as well as those sponsored by individual conferences.

There would be a thinning of the herd among bowl games with only the truly profitable ones surviving.
