I said all along that an ACC aligned and run properly would be my 2nd choice to only the SEC. Just dumb to take options off the table though unless they got something out of this.

Here's an article with Eric Barron's reaction.

Great read cardinals. Thanks for sharing!

I think the next generation of video game consoles will begin the inexorable march toward TV over IP. I would prefer the ACC to be agile to be able to pioneer distribution in that field .... and even a 10 year GoR jeopardizes that.

As a tech guy, you bring up an interesting discussion point re: TV over IP. I believe you mentioned that you've built your own PVR previously and there are definite signs pointing towards cord cutters, specifically with TV series. But we're not yet seeing that with major college sports, with the exception of the Pac-12 toying with the tech companies before bringing their network in-house.

I have MLB.TV, love it, but its an out-of-market package. I still need my pay TV package for Indians games, plus some games given exclusively to TV (ie. ESPN Sunday night, in-market FOX Saturday).

I can't speak for everywhere, but my own options for high speed internet involved

1) 3mbps DSL from AT&T
2) Cable internet from Time Warner

U-Verse wasn't an option. In the case of option 2, my current choice, I'm still paying a TV provider.

The SEC, which had a digital network app on the PS3 (it did not include live games, but archived copywrite material), just gave it up in favor of the forthcoming channel with ESPN.

The irony in that statement is that Florida State is fourth in the ACC in revenue generated. Which would technically mean at least of those portions of the statement is false. :)

Yeah. Three things

1) ESPN Classic has been targeted for several programming overhauls over the past few years, ever since ESPN asked and received permission from virtually every cable op/satco to move ESPNU out of sports tiers and Classic to be downgraded. They've looked at turning it into a competitor to FOX Soccer (and now that FSC is ending in Sept., no need for that) and there was talk of merging it w/NFL Network a few years ago when that channel was having trouble w/Cablevision, Comcast & Time Warner (all since resolved).

2) ESPNU is guaranteed in several conference contracts for games. Pac-12 & Big 12 require games on the network (around 18-20 per season) in basketball alone. Smaller ones like the Sun Belt & MAC have it for many of their football games.

3) Keep an eye on events moving to ESPNEWS. They've already used it as an overflow for some college basketball when there were conflicts with Mexico national team soccer matches. It carried the semifinals of the Indian Wells tennis tournament. It will carry two NASCAR Nationwide Series races this year, one this weekend due to NFL draft & NBA playoffs (the other in Sept due to CFB conflicts). And it has been prominently mentioned in the press releases for the American & MWC new TV contracts. ESPNEWS is in more homes than ESPNU as of this past summer.

I must say I'm not a fan of a GOR. But I'm willing to wait and see if there are divisional changes this upcoming spring. There is also a 2M jump bringing the league north of 20M this upcoming season. I'm willing to be patient and see what happens here on out.

Divisions as of now are set in stone, FSU asked for a geographic split but was shot down by UVA. Also GT doesnt want to move feels it can be other dominant in coastal division

So I get Pitt and BC?!!!!!!

I am PSU and WVU hiring halfway competent AD's away from getting my dream of Pitt, BC, PSU, and WVU on my schedule on a regular basis (min of 3 out of the 4 per year) AND ND every 3 years.

ACC believes if it ever came time to expand there are 2 "Power" teams they believe they could get, more than likely LONG ways away at end of our GOR

Who are they? I assume Notre Dame is one of them.

I don't think it's either school's first choice, but I'm okay with it. I've posted on here before that there are lots of connections:
  • Both cities are located on I-64
  • Both universities were founded during the early years of the republic
  • One school was originally called Jefferson Seminary, the other was founded by Jefferson himself
  • Louisville's main building, Grawemeyer Hall, is based on UVA's Rotunda
I hope both sets of fans can reach a state of peace about this.

Network will include past ND broadcast in both football and other sports. Unclear to me if we have to buy some past broadcasting from NBC or does ND own their past football games? Either way the ACC and ESPN believe having those assets will help the network

How about past Duke, Syracuse, UNC, etc. games?

I would LOVE to see "ACC history month sometime during the summer when everything is slow.

A ND football game followed by a classic Duke_UNC basketball game or a classic Syracuse football/basketball game would be KILLER programming.
