As a Texas State fan we have long known that UNT did not want us in the Sun Belt. Apparently we had the support of ASU , UL and WKU to get in since UNT left. We have no desire for Sam Houston State (Sammy State). Who would support them since the Texas teams do not have a vote? I would support APP State, Georgia Southern and New Mexico State if it was my decision.

You had mentioned this before, I know, but I can't remember... Why is UL so intent on blocking any SLC teams from moving up?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of the SLC teams are in a position to make a move in the next five years (let alone announce it this summer), but not sure why the anti-SLC team sentiment.

Commenting about the original post, you can rest assured that our AD did NOT rock the boat. He will agree to anything anyone else suggests. Makes his life easier, as he doesn't have to take ownership of a decision if it fails, and he can claim he went along with a plan if it proves positive.

And have no fear, Texas State will be here until the lights go off. Texas State will not be leaving unless someone comes to beg us to join somewhere else.

From an ASU perspective, our fans have little history with those schools, and we have been trained to pretty much look down upon the Southland, especially now that UCA plays in the league. We played NMSU in all sports for years... In this era of realignment, its best to be grouped with friends. You get left on an island, you get left behind.

UL or USL back when it was in the SLC made a decision to not follow the rest of the conference to 1AA status in football when the split occured. USL wanted to remain in the SLC in all other sports but was shown the door by a coalition of SLC programs led by McNeese State. UL fans have never forgotten this and will never support allowing any SLC program in the Sun Belt. To do so would mean returning to the past and alienating their own fan base.

Where are those three schools going? Unless CUSA comes calling, there isn't anywhere left to go. My guess is that cooler heads will prevail and in the end, and all three will realize they need the SBC to remain a viable conference. At least they need it to until CUSA calls them.

Packaged together, ASU and ULL could be an intriguing option for a league that is interested in bringing states, but not markets into the fold.

RE: this conference is dead
I believe WKU is as good as gone and that a battle royal is about to begin between ULL and ASU over the next spot that becomes available at CUSA.. Everything is on the line for both schools and I think they know it. If it doesn't happen soon, it will be too late for both of them, as other schools will pass them by as probable candidates. For what it's worth, I think it is too close to call between ULL and ASU right now.

RE: this conference is dead
Fortunately for TXST (then SWT) we were not in DI at the time. Thanks for not holding being from the SLC against us.

To answer about voting; technically UTA and TXST are still members of the WAC. We may can sit in but I doubt we even have 1 iota of allowable input until after July 1.

Seriously though, anyone still mentioning SAM, with their seats on a hillside stadium is on my "speak to the hand" list.

They've had a couple good runs but still couldn't get fan support and their baseball team is on a current upswing but that doesn't translate long term because the commitment isn't there, nor is the money to get there.
(That and I never want to be in the same conference with them again)

We hate Nicholls too after what their Pres did with our "Battle for the Paddle' ......jerk.

I'd like to know who suggested Sam Houston and their 8000 fans per game, or Liberty. Neither should be in this conversation, not now.

App State and GA Southern for football, and NMSU for hoops credibility.

I can see ULL and ASU thinking a bid to CUSA will be forthcoming, but they may want to play nice in the sandbox just in case. To say you're out in 3 is childish and irresponsible. Where are the adults?

Glad to hear ASU and ULL are working together at least on this.

Sad that its with an eye on the door that may never open.

Sad that someone in the east is playing games with the western schools.

Sad that the fight is over fricking NMSU.

I presume that F_U and MTSU are not voting right? So why would the remaining east teams be able to stop NMST if the whole west wanted them?

The ONLY thing I can think of that would cause those in the east to be at odds with those in the west is that maybe the eastern schools see that there is more chance of security by moving the geographic footprint more east as opposed to west. I say this because we saw what happened with the WAC with the lack of academic institutions. With there being more institutions to the east than west, maybe some see there to be more security by moving east. Not saying that I agree with this, but that it could be a train of thought of some out there. It makes sense.

If it was about NMSU, and we dont really know what happened (we weren't there), it could have been us.

Or both. That's what I'm wondering. I have no clue what WKU is thinking right now (do they in fact have a C-USA invite and participating in these conversations?)... Georgia State doesn't have a vote yet that I know of. MTSU, FAU, and FIU can't vote from the East. UNT can't vote from the West. It sounds like if anyone opposed them it could be one or both of us. I don't know who would suggest SHSU though, that doesn't make any sense.

My first thought was that it had to be one or both of us when I heard this rumor. Based on the fact that there's so few of us from the east that have a say. And to be honest, based off of his previous comments of keeping a geographic footprint for the conference, this sounds like something our Chancellor could be doing. I hope I'm wrong.
