RE: What I heard late last night
The NCAA has never allowed a transition year 2 team to count another transition year 2 team as FBS.

If App and GaSo join there is no question Arkansas State can count both as FBS in year 2. The question is whether App and GaSo can count their game for FBS schedule purposes.

this is incorrect. It will work the same as USA did and count as comference wins but won't be eligible for the championship or post season play.

FBS transitional teams have counted as FBS games in the past. Cannot imagine the NCAA and the BCS wouldn't count them since they already allow one FCS win per year to count like any FBS win. The conference would have to vote on whether the games would count as conference eligible games, which would imagine they would vote to do so.

Let's get this thing going. Tired of farting around.

Let's make it a clean cut...no WKU hanging around a year, etc. All games count for the newbies.

Louisiana in the east makes no sense at all. Seems like Scott Farmer wants two personal trips to Troy and Georgia every year. :irate:

That's right you'd be in the same situation as ODU. Make '13 your first (FCS) transition year, play your SoCon schedule but be ineligible for the playoff. Then in '14 the Sunbelt could put you on the conference schedule and you'll be considered FBS games but still ineligible for bowl games. I think it's up to the conference to decide if you'd be eligible for a conference title in '14.

Oh, thought there was a question of FBS transitional game counting at all. Believe they counted for some WAC teams, do not know if they had NCAA approval though. Did read some NCAA ruling previously that stated that it counted, do not know if it was in the WAC specific, but do not know where put my finger on that right now.

Since recruiting is all over, if we do not go above the sixty three scholarships until after this years season that should mean that GaSo and we would be eligible for FCS playoffs this year it seems. You guys could not do that 2013-2014 because you will have too many scholarships, and there was a moratorium on for transition, unless a school had already started it, until this year. So your FCS transitional year didn't start until this year.

No. As soon as you declare for FBS you're ineligible for FCS playoffs.
USA was never eligible for FCS playoffs because our FBS intentions were always clear.

You can count one FCS game per year just like an FBS game, plus FBS transitional games are fully counted as FBS games unless that has changed.

Only second-year transitional games are counted as FBS games. First-year transitional are counted as FCS.

We were eligible for the playoffs last year despite anouncing our transition last spring. GaSt wasn't however even though they had no more scholarships than us, the difference in my mind is that last year was thier first transition year. I haven't read the NCAA regs but I think it's a situation where you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Last statement is interesting because ASU's AD had said last week that non-conference football scheduling was getting messy because some teams he was talking to might well be conference opponents soon.

Not sure what that means because other than NMSU I can't think of a single team other than Idaho (who is already scheduled) that would be a potential non-conference opponent.

App, Ga. Southern, James Madison, Liberty would never come to Jonesboro for what we pay FCS teams.

I'd hope he has sufficient brain power to not be considering SHSU as a buy game.

That would leave only Lamar and Missouri State out of FCS that we would potentially schedule.

Makes sense not to have a coaches meeting on it until something is announced. Would think they are being told that for a reason.

Our beat writer is still taking the stance of speculation and rumors currently, but than turns around and says 95% chance of WKU getting invite soon..So I am sure he is waiting until WKU makes official annoucement is how I read it...He is saying not sure what this coaches meeting rumor is about, that if we were planning on leaving for CUSA, this happened a long time ago with the coaches...

Was told, pretty sure by some GaSt fans and some other people that GaSt had decided to go above the sixty three limit last year because of some players they picked up, could be wrong. Would like to see the NCAA regulation, because several posters have said that in FCS transitional year if you do not go above the sixty three then there is no problem with playoffs. I don't care that much but some people will be debating that to death.
