RE: Iowa game thread
Here's a good picture of the crowd. There was probably twice as much red at the 2007 game.

Actually 52,117.

The problem was, as mentioned previously, it was BY FAR the worst turnout of NIU fans of the three games at SF. I would estimate we had no more than 10,000-12,000 NIU fans in attendance. It was a true home game for Iowa. And don't think that wasn't a huge factor when were on offense in the 4th quarter.

Could have been a great atmosphere, but it wasn't when you're outnumbered that badly. And that shouldn't have happened.

While CLEARLY there were a lot more Iowa fans in attendance, I have to dispute your estimate of NIU fans. I'm terrible at attendance guessing games, but I estimated we were in the high teens. Maybe even 20,000??? Overall attendance was remarkably good.

You're right, you're terrible at attendance guessing. The whole stadium holds about 62K. Even 16K would be more than 25% of the stadium. I couldn't see the entire stadium from where I was sitting but it looked like about 10-1 Iowa fans. Based on the picture that was attached, it doesn't look any better than that. It might as well have been Kinnick Stadium.

After seeing the picture, my original estimate was wrong. There were <10,000 NIU fans in the seats. Terrible turnout for us.

Fans will stop paying the high prices to see the Huskies lose. We really needed a win this time around.

RE: Iowa game thread
like all gimmicks, this concept wears down on the fans after multiple times. its great the first time, but loses any 'special feeling' after that. maybe NIU banks $, maybe the players love it. thats all fine, but its obvious that the gimmick has lost its luster with fans. keep doing it for the money, just do not act suprised when NIU fans stop attending this en masse at these ticket prices.

And continuous losses at SF as well.

RE: Iowa game thread
The only way we can play BCS teams is at Soldier Field. They will not come to DeKalb. Period. So if we want to up the stakes for the "caliber" of team we play it has to be in Chicago. I think doing it in back to back years with those high ticket prices is what hurt us. And it's not so "novel" when it's done in back to back years.
I think to do it once every 3-4 years is about right.

At least this time we lived up to the Soldier Field Showdown marketing. We gave them a real run for the money! Much better than being beaten to a bloody pulp like last year. This was at least a good game IMO.

Do you mean the Ohio State's and Nebraska's of the world, or any BCS team? If you mean any BCS team, then I think we should thrown in the towel right now because that means we are not to the level of even CMU, Toledo, etc. Other MAC teams are bringing in BCS teams on a regular basis.
