Ayo Bakare
Anyone remember this guy? I was watching the USA vs Nigeria Bball game and Nigeria's head coach Ayo Bakare apparently played at Western. (they mentioned this on the broadcast - pretty cool)

Dont see he ever "Played" basketball for WMU.
Atleast he is not on the Bball letter winner list under that name.

The announcers in the booth said he went to Central Michigan and then Craig Sager said that he went to Western. They never clarified. Also, I think they had the camera on the wrong guy when they were first introducing him because they switched who they would show most on their bench.

He was born in 1960 so that would put him in college around 1980.

I don't remember him, that would have him at WMU approx 1978 - 1982. The dark ages for WMU hoops.

GBL, whatcha got?

Scratch.

He wasnt apart of Dick Shilt's staff and I don't believe Les Wothke.
Larry Quarles was an asst. (out of Cleveland/Akron) for Shilts after Rich Walker left. Majorhoople was the GA after Jim Kurzen left.

I believe Tim Waller, former manager in '76, who worked briefly with Rich Walker at Elmhurst (IL) College after Coach left after the 76-77 season came back to be a grad asst. for Wothke.

Ricky Byrdsong was an asst. to Wothke only after Chauncy Brinn made a stink that Bob Hildebrand was white and with Steve Fisher that made for a too pasty staff, so tho Hilde was hired (No and I had him over for dinner) things changed rapidly and in an unpublic manner.

Don't know for sure but the above statement is my attempt to rule out slots of where he could have been.

Ayodele Bakare is full name.

Not that it matters a whole lot. I can't find squat online about him. Nothing that gives his educational history at least.

He might have played the short full courts in the Gary Center.
