Add FSU and Bama of course.

Welcome to the Sun Belt, fellow Panthers! Congrats to GSU on their impending invite, hoping for success in our conference. I still remember playing GSU back in the day at the old TAAC conference.

I think it's the wrong direction to initially go. Consider me underwhelmed.

2 of the 3 are still FCS schools, so really have proven nothing on this level. Almost all FCS schools go through a transition period when they move up where they struggle. La Tech was and is the only school you could add that would be a competitive improvement to the league. That may still happen. Of the FCS schools GSU is as good as any.

BS. That was quite an asinine comment, especially considering youve seen App St play.

You asked what were the alternatives to startups, so you got the list of interested schools with established programs.
Obviously FCS schools will need time to adjust, but App State would clearly be more prepared for FBS football than Ga State and I suspect Texas State would as well since they have at least one class in that they recruited with an FBS pitch. Plus Franchione is a very good coach.

Still not a fan of this move, but I'm gonna stop being as anti-GSU as I was. I just hope that they eventually deliver more than a market, and I mean some of their attendances last season just won't cut it. With that said, hopefully by moving up into the SBC, some TV games and playing in the Georgia Dome, they might make some market penetration and start really growing their fan base. Still, of the start ups, USA and UTSA are far beyond GSU from a fan perspective at this point.

Yes I have, and for the FCS level you are very good. That doesn't mean a thing when you move up to the FBS level. WKU was really good at FCS, and was quite frankly awful for several years at FBS. They have gotten over that hump now, but to assume any FCS school is going to come right in and be a bowl team is no guarantee, no matter how good the FCS team was. A few have done it, but just as many have had major struggles to start. If you are adding an FCS school it better not be because you think short term they will improve the strength of your league, because that's destined to turn out badly.

With UTSA dragging their feet, I'm growing more and more a fan of just adding TSU and letting UTSA and La Tech scramble for backup plans if/when they aren't added in CUSA/MWC.

You mean UTSA was. USA averaged less than 19k last year. That was still good enough for #9 in FCS attendance. We were #18 after being #9 in year one. All this proves is that FCS games draw FCS attendance. We have 6 million people in this city and 123k alumni in this state. We will do fine.

App was one overthrown pass away from embarrassing ECU's best team in however long, in greenville, and with 63 scholarships. App football is good, even for a non BCS team. The only problem is, we cant get non BCS teams (except for ECU) to schedule us.

If App gets a full allotment of scholarships, in two or three years they'd be in the top half of either the Sun Belt, or Alliance.

ASU has never been a bottom dweller, even before the FCS even existed. We have a program, and we have a program that draws and sells well. Its not hard to recruit to Boone.

Half of ECU's staff came from App State for crying out loud.

You aren't really saying anything that changes my point. If you are adding an FCS school you aren't adding them expecting an immediate bump in on the field competition. You are adding them based on long term projections. As for you almost beating our supposed best team in ages so what? That sounds like what some of our fans like to brag about when we come close to beating an AQ team. Unless you won the game who cares? Moral victories are for losers. We won the game and you lost it. We came close to beating VT last year, don't think we got half credit because we played a good team close.

Instead, we take a startup based on the premise that they might be valuable in, say, a decade.

Atlanta's a terrible sports city, a terrible road trip, they have a real team in GT across the street that barely draws, the Ga Dome is a dump. It's entirely possible (probable?) that this program is dead on arrival.

The only reason GSU is getting in is Karl Benson thinks they might bring some more TV sets with them (aint gonna happen, but whatever). If GSU was located in Tifton, we'd never be even sniffing.

This is a bad way to run a conference.

Welcome to GSU fans. Please remember the rules here.

1. You are to unconditionally hate anything associated with Louisiana Tech because they are now going to hate you.

2. Despite our squabbles we get along better then any other conference then America. Thou shall not trash conference members unless they are a natural rival. Or do something stupid to deserve it.

3. No posturing to the alliance allowed.

4. New Mexico State can never be mentioned as an expansion candidate.

5. We pride ourselves on our strengths. We expect your football program to show it is prepared to compete, and we expect your baseball program to rise up to the challenge of playing in what is really close to a Big 6 league. In basketball we simply ask that you try not to beat us too bad.

6. As a belt board member you now get protected status when unruly CUSA or Tech fans come to attack. We just ask that you make sure you dont leave any food out, they can get rather hungry at night.

I love the addition of GSU. I now have a reason to go to ATL and visit the GA Dome.

Why are people on here upset with Benson? This is a great move. We can only add those programs that want to be added. For us to not have added La Tech, UTSA, App State and TSU, to me means that they do not want to be added at this time. Is that Benson's fault? No, the show must go on. if those programs desire to wait for this alliance thing to take shape then let them. In the end, the SBC still must do what's right for the SBC. What this move does is gives us more teams in the East, and pressures those in the West waiting to see what happens with the alliance to make a move or get left out in the cold. I wouldn't be surprised if another addition is announced relatively soon.

GSU gets points in my book for not "holding out" and being the first school to accept an invite. I hope I, among others, end up being grossly erroneous in our assessment of GSU's length of tenure in the SBC.

Despite any squabbles you are now family and I look forward to improving the conference alongside you.

If you will remember the ONLY reasons that FIU and FAU got in a few years back was because they saved us from extinction. They werent prepared and were not ready, and it turned out pretty well.

Understand that our most attractive pograms at times have been our FCS bring ups. GSU fans will start showing up now that they are D1. Give them a chance.

USA also had 2 games over the 20,000 mark and didn't have the benefit of playing a team from the same city. FIU and FAU have gigantic alumni bases and are in Miami, but they still have trouble drawing so there will still be issues. The attendance concern absolutely should be a concern to GSU fans, and to me were the most glaring drawback for adding GSU.
