Kinda reminds me of old BE threads being hijacked by a ECU, Memphis, or a SMU fan.

I had the same thought. Deja vu all over again.

Part of the reason why I prefer to stay out of expansion threads anymore. Everything just gotten so redundant. The same people will say that the ACC needs to be patient while the other group of same people will continue to say we need to go to 16. Then you're going to see the folk from the outside saying we're the best choice long term for the ACC. The situation is just so fluid that in 10-15 years from now, the top 2 choices may be 2 choices nobody is talking about today.

TU brings the 4th largest media market in the US, a new market for the ACC, a proven basketball brand (6th in all time NCAA wins), and a football program that’s experiencing a rebirth and its steadily on the rise.
It’s all matter of opinion, and when it’s said that “more desirable Northeast teams are out there” I assume you mean the established programs, the Rutgers and UConn. My point is simply if you think outside the safty of the known commodity box, and want to give an up and coming program a shot to make a national splash in your conference, I think Temple brings the most upside for both basketball and football, as well as a good fit geographically.

The only two things that aren't your opinion are the fact that you are in the #4 market and 6th in all-time basketball wins.

Sure your football program is no longer a doormat, but you have not only failed to win the MAC, you have never beat a MAC team with a winning record. Huge step up from the MAC to the ACC, just like it's a huge step up from the A10 to the ACC in hoops.

Temple has already proven they are capable of wasting BCS AQ level money during their time in the Big East. Is Temple's limited success in the MAC a product of them learning their lesson or is it a case of them being surrounded by programs they are more capable of competing with? IMO it's a mix of both.

There is no doubt that the old Temple football program was a joke, on all fronts. From playing home games at Veterans Stadium, to the coaching staffs, their performance on the field and their attendance right down to the administrations lack of commitment to the program. That being said I don’t feel it’s fair to hold the programs history over its head when contemplating its future. There are facts to support the program is on the rise. Playing home games at the Linc, attendance steadily on the rise year over year each year, 2 bowl games in 4 years, winning one of those games, the $9,000,000 committed to the upgrade of the practice facilities, and the hiring of a good solid coaching staff with SEC roots, those are all facts. Do I wish they had a MAC championship under their belt, sure, but they don’t. To the established programs and their fans that may not seem like much, but after the 1 – 11 season of 2006 I think if you asked any college football fan, including Temple fans, if in 5 seasons they would have achieved all that’s listed above, including a record of 26 – 12 over the last 3 seasons, they would have said no way.

I have no delusions of Temple ever being admitted into the ACC, don’t get me wrong, I would love to see it, I just know it’s not happening, it’s just what’s the next step? It’s either a major conference or the MAC and A-10, there is nothing in between. Facts about TU basketball, 3 A-10 titles in the last 4 years, 3 in a row, 4 NCAA tournament appearances in a row. Now I know that wont knock anyone off the chair but if not the ACC or Big East what’s next for a program like Temple? The crumbling C-USA? That’s a huge step down for basketball, and with the loss of the teams to the Big East it’s a lateral move in football.

Let me ask the question, with the exception of the established programs discussed like Rutgers, Penn State, ND, UConn, which up and coming programs, not already in a power conference, bring more potential to the table then Temple? I don’t just mean on field potential, but I also mean potential when it comes to building a product the networks are willing to pay the conference top dollar for, teams with strong TV markets. Also, if there are no steps in between conferences like the MAC, A-10, and the ACC and Big East, how does a school like Temple make the jump to a major conference?

It is certainly possible for Temple to eventually make the jump to the ACC or Big Ten or SEC or Big XII but circumstances would have to break exactly right for Temple. Of the teams not in power conferences that have potential to jump at some point in the future include: Temple, UMass, New York University (yes, there would have to be state law change but with politicians being so erratic these days who knows).

I assume you mean The State University of New York at Buffalo, and not New York University.

Buffalo is an AAU member. If the state allowed them to market themselves as UNY, and funded their athletics. They would be in the B1G in no time.

Hey guys, my apologies, It was just my attempt at some friendly back and forth on a topic that when you come right down to it, is all based on opinion, skewed toward the team, teams, or conferences your rooting for. I was never under the assumption that any ACC conference chancellors or policy makers were posting on this board so anything I said would actually influence the decision of the teams chosen for 15 and 16, or even if there was an expansion. It was all done in good natured fun, it want not my intention to “hijack” anything.

Haha. I'm actually a native Floridian who was mostly raised in Upstate. But I spend alot of time in NYC, probably more than I like too, but my wife loves to shop there and hang out down there so I dont have a choice. Even though I'm a native Floridian, I have a NY State of mind.

How about some names that haven't been beaten to death? Besides ND, PSU, Uconn, RU and Temple would you like to see on the list?

At this point are there any other names that makes sense at this point? South Carolina, Vandy, UMass, Louisville and Texas been tossed around but they are as likely as Florida joining the ACC.

Tulane.

It gets us into Louisiana for recruiting, they have excellent academics, and it means a road trip to Nawlins.

I have no idea. The point was to get a few new names tossed out.

I used to work on-campus. Heard rumors about Florida but that was long, long time ago. UGa is in EAGL (or what ever it's called now) with NCSU, UNC and MD. No, I really don't see either one leaving the SEC. Still it is more interesting than rehashing Uconn vs Rutgers for the 10,000th time. 03-banghead

Part of the reason why I try my hardest not to reply to these threads and threads on MSG Hosting the ACC Tourney. Its gotten very redundant.

ECU and Southern Miss

We've both paid our dues and we're both competitive in the main 3 sports

Southern Miss has a far better chance than ECU.

I highly doubt that ECU would get a single positive vote if it ever got that far. NC is already saturated as far as the ACC goes, and the last thing the rest of the ACC wants is a program that can even potentially be institutionally held hostage by the bastiges in Crapple Hill.

Honestly the schools will look at it like this

ECU - over 50,000 fans in the stadium and has people who watch from all over NC, and parts of Va and SC with improving basketball and baseball that just needs to put it all together to bust out

Big East schools - crap upon crap upon crap

Other bcs schools - wont leave where their at

Plus ECU makes the most sense out there we already regularly schedule acc teams in all sports

RE: Whom Do We Want for 15 and 16?
Even if the other North Carolina schools wanted to add ECU (to preserve our historic voting block for the sake of argument), the rest of the ACC would vote against them. We already control and are paid for every media market in North Carolina and Virginia so ECU literally adds nothing to our Tv contract. Their football and baseball teams would be competitive and their football fans would travel but that's not enough.

If you want a different expansion scenario to talk about let's say the ACC goes to 20 teams instead of 16. Then you could add Notre Dame, Penn State, UConn, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Tulane (or Louisville).

Break them into pods of five and your team plays everyone in its pod and one other pod every year.

North
BC
Syracuse
UConn
Rutgers
Notre Dame

Mid-Atlantic
Penn State
Pittsburgh
Maryland
West Virginia
VT

Upper South
UVa
UNC
Duke
NC State
Wake Forest

Deep South
FSU
GT
Miami
Clemson
Tulane

To sweeten the deal for Notre Dame; UConn, Rutgers and Syracuse can play some of their games against Notre Dame in the Meadowlands. Maybe Rutgers can even host them in Philadelphia once in awhile.
