I had to laugh at this quote, speaking of the pasting of NIU: "Imagine if first-year NIU coach Dave Doeren and Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema weren’t friends." Bret Bielema has always run up the score on the opponents, no matter who their coach is. He smells blood, and he has his guys pour it on. He was the same way back in the day when he used to play at Iowa, and later as an assistant coach for the Hawkeyes. It's just the way he rolls. There is no such thing as a kinder and gentler Bret Bielema.
