Quote:Prayers to the family. Sad, tragic and unimaginable.

There is a little more information on mlive.

I am totally stunned. This is just over two weeks after the 2009 GA graduate & sports star committed suicide.

RE: Very Sad Story
Just awful. Is it just me or do we hear more stories about youth athletes dying during/after competition more often now?

My folks live in Saugatuck and we like to go to the Saugatuck vs Fennville rivalry games.... This is really sad, he seemed like a nice kid from what I could tell

I heard that story and couldn't believe it. Can't imagine how family and close friends must feel now. To go from exhuberance to tragedy in a few short minutes has to be devastating.

Keep them in your thoughts. I am.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart), according to the Medical Examiner. It can be congenital or acquired by virus. He had the "flu" lately. Connection? Who knows. Very sad either way.

RE: Very Sad Story
The worst thing that can happen to a human being is the death of a child.

I also tell our players when they have family time to tell their parents they love them, too - because you never know.

RE: Very Sad Story
My parents both graduated from Fennville and my father still owns a store there. From all accounts I've heard, this kid was a really good kid. .My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Fennville is done. Lost to a 20-0 squad with all its players. I live in Schoolcraft and a lot of the players live in my subdivision. I was going to go, but the game sold out before 9:00 AM.

Actually, I saw the story of the loss on HLN cable news today. Wes's story touched hearts all across America, and people everywhere have been following Fennville basketball in the last week.

RE: Very Sad Story
I was in Las Vegas last week and they were running this story on the local news out there. Something about it just touches your heart. So sad. It would be sad even if he wasn't a "good kid", but the context just makes it all the more tragic.
