I wonder/hope if some sort of arrangement is in place where he works on game prep and practices with them, and work on recruiting for us.

Also hoping he can peel a couple Badger assistants to come with him. I'm sure we're about to see guys who were either assitants or GAs at Wisconsin in the last few years on staff.

I'm sure he'll be pulling double duty. His focus will be getting on the blower with our verbals and trying to convince as many as possible to hang with us. He probably won't have much to do at all with the current team so as not to undermine Tuke and the outgoing staff. Maybe a quick meeting to introduce himself.

He really doesn't need to be sitting in the Yordon Center wondering just how cold it can get in Dekalb (the answer is "it can still get colder").

RE: It's Dave Doeren
Works well with our timeline.. in a few years when he's done Hammock or Fleck will be ready to be a head coach. Will be nice to get more pressure on the quarterback. Will be interesting to see who he hire as assistants, probably going to see a few guys with NIU ties, considering he's not a head coach currently, it's not like he has his own staff to bring over. Offensive coordinator will be pretty important, like I said in the other thread, I also am on the Hammock bandwagon. The guy has proven he can do the job at Minnesota.

It looks like we've got a new leader. It looks like we hired a pretty good candadite and I am excited to have him on board. Go Huskies!

RE: It's Dave Doeren
Finally? It's been like a week.

So, any ideas on who he might hire to coach with him? Has anyone followed him from previous jobs to Wisconsin? DB coach or DL coach for example? Do we keep our QB coach, he seems to really know what he's doing, could he be the new OC? Lots of questions to be answered still. What timeline do you think we'll see on his hiring of assistants?

So Doeren can't come until after the Rose Bowl, huh?

Don't know too much about him at this point but it seems like a good hire. Hopefully he can keep the recruits on board.

This hire should keep our midwest recruiting ties in good order. He also knows where to recruit to get skill players if needed.

He also has a lot of Florida ties if you look at other years.

Yeah saw that he basically worked Florida exclusively in 2009

This is from ESPN

Quote:Doeren had interviewed for the head-coaching vacancies at both Indiana and Vanderbilt, so it's no surprise that he landed a top job. I really like this hire for Northern Illinois, as Doeren is young and charismatic and brings a strong track record both as a coach and as a recruiter. His Wisconsin defense wasn't a lock-down unit this season, but it finished in the top four of the Big Ten in most major statistical categories. Doeren deserves credit for helping mold defenders like J.J. Watt and Chris Borland into stars.

"Only knock is no head coaching exp ".....tell that to Florida, UT(Beckmann seems to be doing a good job), and Miami.

Would love to see Zembrowski stay on as OC and QB coach. Let PJ get more experience elsewhere. If the timing is right he'll be our head coach someday.

Sure. Hopefully he'll be recruiting for NIU while he's still with Wisconsin. At least I hope that's what he'll be doing.

Bring PJ in as the assistant head coach/head coach in waiting/WR coach and Hammock as the OC. I'd be very satisfied with that staff.

It's great to get a young guy to run the program. I want a MACC for a good run of 3 out of 5 years. We need to take over the weak MAC and become a annual Top 20 team. There is absolutely no reason that we cannot do that.

Nice that he was considered for the Indiana and Vanderbilt jobs. Says quite a bit about the guy to be considered for BCS jobs that pay 2-3 times as much as NIU job does.

As much as everybody would like to see Fleck/Hammock/etc. join the coaching staff...I have to believe he is going to have complete freedom to choose his own assistants. It is my guess that a Fleck or Hammock will not end up on the coaching staff. Of course, I could be wrong...

Hammock - maybe. There's hardly any separation these days b/w the Minnesota and Wisconsin rivalry. I'm sure they know eachother pretty closely.

Fleck - probably not.
