Jeremy Werner needs to get straightened out
Here is part of his latest story:

Backups get their chance
Comments (No comments posted) | Add Comments

Fans may not notice, but one of the upsides of a blowout win is increased playing time for backups.

Five games into the season, Illinois coaches finally received film of several of its backups who played late in the Huskies’ 50-14 rout of Akron last Saturday.

"It's good that they had a chance,” NIU offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover said. “Those guys do so much and there's not a lot of glory involved. For the most part, they're working as scout team guys. They're giving a look, they're doing a lot of standing around and watching. That's the tough thing about being a backup. They got in there and had a good time with it. The great thing was they came out (Tuesday) and they had a snap in their step."

On offense, redshirt freshman Jordan Lynch received his first collegiate playing time, rushing for a yard and completing one pass, an 11-yard gain to senior tight end Nick Groeniger – also receiving his first playing time of the season – during the fourth quarter.

Wide receivers Anthony Johnson, Matt Ng and Akeem Daniels also received extended playing time, along with offensive linemen Jared Volk, Matt Krempel, Adam Kiel and Ed Jackson.

On defense, the Huskies coaching staff made an effort to get several defensive backs extra playing time, including safeties Garrett Barnas, Jimmie Ward (five tackles) and Demetrius Stone. Redshirt freshman cornerback Dominique Ware intercepted a pass during his first collegiate game.

Seriously????? ILINOIS COACHES?????????? This is not the first time this season that this gentleman has allowed Illinois leanings to show through. He needs to stop right now, or the Chronicle will lose all credibility. Maybe they need to reach out to Ben Gross who can, will and does write circles around this guy. My god! Illinois coaches????? and there are no editors there to catch this? How embarrassing can something get?

What's the big deal?
It must be wonderful knowing that you've gone through life and never made a mistake in your job that got past everyone else also.
JW does a good job-I enjoy his articles so cut the man a little slack here.
He DID work at Illinois and was around their program for a few years.
It's a natural mistake.

Sometimes I wonder if the nameless, faceless posters on this site would ever have the nerve to confront the people they take down on this board face to face. I doubt it.

At least there's an article about the team. Better than the silence we get from some newspapers.

First, I don't doubt it. Second, I think you will find that I do not normally call out individuals on this board. However, ordinarily that means i don't pile on to attacks on college students, be they players or writers for a school newspaper. However, Mr. Werner has entered the professional ranks -- the real world. And in the real world, you can expect criticism and take it like a big boy. I doubt Mr. Werner needs you to make excuses for him. I give him more respect than that. Calling NIU "Illinois" in the context of covering NIU's football season after you just recently arrived from Illinois is a huge and embarrassing mistake. It's one to be corrected, learn from, and move on. Now, if you accept mistakes like that in your professional life, then I pray you aren't building bridges or tunnels or skyscrapers. Heck, I hope your not fixing food at McDonald's.

Exactly, it's his job to get it right. We are never refereed to as Illinois , we are NIU. And if you're the NIU beat writer you should be the one that gets it right every single time.

Though I'm guessing he's not getting paid to write articles, like Werner is. It is a big error, and not a very easy of a mistake to make. Not like he said SIU instead of ISU. But an article's an article, still a good thing.

HAHAHA. Dude used to write for Illinois, I'm sure he just did it out of habit. If people here didn't have little brother syndrome nobody would care.

Christ, guys. Cut him some slack. He's a good reporter, good writer. We all make stupid mistakes and typos like this even at a professional level. I'm sure he feels even saltier about the typo then you guys feel. Trust me, he does, writers always feel worse about their mistakes.

I don't dispute that at all. I really do enjoy reading his articles, but that's one thing that has to be right.

Hey, it's fixed. Take it easy.

BTW, I think J Sahly went to Mizzou. The DCC can't just hire NIU grads. Hopefully, writers are doing their best to get up to speed on whatever team they are assigned to cover when they get a job. There are probably NIU grads out there somewhere covering Army or whatever.
