RE: NIU Band Will Travel to Champaign
Good decision on the part of NIU to fund the band trip to Champaign. The band members work hard and deserve some perks, it will add to their college experience. It will also be nice for NIU students and alums that attend the game. I love our band and I love our fight song!

GO HUSKIES!

RE: NIU Band Will Travel to Champaign
My niece is in the band and they had every expectation of this being the road game of the year they attend for several months now. It was never in question. I think the issue was that U of I wouldn't grant us any additional visitor tickets due to the band attending (don't quote me on that though).

RE: NIU Band Will Travel to Champaign
Wait wait wait wait, I have season tickets in Section 108 and I'm going to have to put up with the NIU band all day? I can't even hear our own band that well at that end of the field! 01-lauramac2

But seriously, I hope they have a fun trip and a good time at the game...weather looks like it should be nice too so hopefully they have an enjoyable experience. Same goes for everybody else on this board making the trip down.

RE: NIU Band Will Travel to Champaign
This is great news! Any idea where they will be sitting? Or if they will be playing somewhere pre-game? (or during the game?) You think we can get the Marching Illini to play the Huskie Fight Song? (If we play the Huskie Bow Wow-- I mean Oskee Wow Wow)

RE: NIU Band Will Travel to Champaign
from the article

Quote:The 160-member Huskie Marching Band will occupy a chunk of section 109 on the southeast side of Memorial Stadium.

Quote:The Huskie Marching Band will perform on the field before the game and at halftime.

The band will leave DeKalb at about 7 p.m. Friday before staying overnight in Bloomington. They will perform at the Alumni Association Tailgate event at 9:45 a.m. Saturday before filtering into Memorial Stadium.

Will Malaguena get the performance off to a rousing start?

Yikes and so much for a rousing jump start to a program to WOW any football game audience.

I know marching huskies devote endless unschollied hours to practicing and performing and deserve credit and respect but, come on, could we pay the Ohio U band to perform wearing red and black for a day?

The difference between an average college band like NIU and a really good marching band can be measured in light years.

Come to think of it, the difference between an average college football team and a good team can also apparently be measured in light years.

dude, that's awesome! they will definitely add on to a full fledged Huskie spirit parade when we're down there (plus, we'll get to annoy the Illini with our "and that's a Huskie FIRST DOWN!!!" chant!)!!!

GOOOOOOOO HUSKIES!!!!

sure wish you would have a better attitude about our band. It's sad that you seem to take such joy in bashing them. They work hard and fully support our team. Home games would be seriously lacking without them. C'mon give them a break, will you?

RE: NIU Band Will Travel to Champaign
I enjoy many of the tunes, antics and what the NIU Marching Band adds to game day. They achieve alot with little support compared to other U bands. I acknowledged their dedication and hard work. Lots of orgs are dedicated and work hard. A fact of life is some are simply much better than others at what they do. There rests my "attitude". We are who we are.

Explain to me how a football audience, fans and opponents can be impressed by hearing a college band play Malaguena on a big stage. It's just so nothing compared to all of what's out there to play and would not get most listeners off their feet and applauding. I'm eager to learn and compare how Marching Illini open a show. A few of my colleagues have kids in their band.

Close your eyes, listen and ask which band gets your heart pumping Saturday.

The Huskie Band WILL ALWAYS get my heart pumping!!! I would not trade our band for the arrogant flailing Zooker band ......EVER! Their conceited attitude makes me sick and if you compared them to any band in say.....the SEC.......the Zooker Band would suck. Just because Illness is bigger does not make them better.

My loyalty to the Huskie Band runs very deep and cannot or will not ever be shaken. My son is a Huskie Band Alum.

I agree that it's just the song choice that isn't the best for this game. I believe that we should have tried to get something that is high impact, that will get everyone into it. Maybe a Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder, hip hop show, something along those lines.

Oh and also, Malaguena is what's going to be played at any postseason game. 04-chairshot

You can chalk up that choice to the drum corps-centric director for that choice.

As I'm sure everyone on here knows, I love the band, but some of the decisions make me want to bang my head against a wall
