RE: Rivals countdown 120 to 1
Losing can be hard on fans and much harder on players and coaches who we expect to bounce back the very next day at practice. Whether fan, player or coach - shaking it off is never easy, but it's what sports and competition teaches us all.

I thought it was most telling to read in the HuskieWire blog recently how loses in the last few years of Novak's career really ate at him, perhaps more than during earlier seasons.

I look at Kill's first year and the wins and loses differently. I was somewhat amazed and pleased he put NIU into position to win games his first season with a wounded team coming outta spring ball on crutches, rehab, without a healthy returning starting QB and a 2-10 season in the rear view mirror.

Had a few of the close losses been W's, many would say his first year and turnaround winning more four more games than the previous season would have been quite remarkable. NIU had one of the better turnaround seasons in 2008 among D-1 teams. He and the staff put NIU into position to win games as much as he did bobble opportuntities to get a W.

The games I consider for my TOP TEN Vomit List are those NOT where teams were equal, better or similar to NIU, but when the opposition was clearly inferior to NIU. Bitter as the losses were, I dont put the NU , SIU or Akron MACC games in that category. Nonetheless, they too were tough to swallow but in a different sorta way.

Rich Rodriquez inherited crap at the skill positions AND is installing a brand new spread offense. A loss against Appalachian State is inexcusable on all levels, but I wouldn't go crapping on a Michigan program that will return to its natural place in the college football hierarchy soon enough.

Rich Rod isn't the one who lost to App State (just clarifying), and I agree Michigan will return.

right, because he had one season and had absolutely zero skill players which his entire offense is based on. oh and he had a top ten recruiting class...what a bum. maybe not this year but in 2010 they'll likely be a top 25 team.

I would say that Rich Rod and crew is probably looking at 2011 as a year when they should return, they are 3 seasons away. They have 2 Freshman who are trying to be their QB and that isn't a great thing.

This year is probably going to be worse than last year for them, with their transfers and all, but he now has "his" guys out there to start to learn they system. I don't think they just need this one season then they'll be back in the Top 25 - they just don't have enough returning to survive in the Big 10 early on.

In 2011 they will probably be real good.

EMU beat NIU in 2007 MAC home opener , 21-19, coming from behind & down 13-0 then blocking NIU's makeable FG on last play of the game. Wolfe had graduated, my bad. Chalk it up to Cybermentia.

The loss qualifies for my list of Top Ten Vomit Loses to an inferior opponent.

Noone had a bigger gag than the Michigan Wolverines to Appalachain State. Every other upset in college football looks miniscule compared to that embarassment.
Their Toledo loss last year was worse but not as high profile. At least Ap St. was a good team.
No it wasn't. No top 25 tem had ever lost to a 1-aa team before, and Michigan was #4 (I believe) in the country at the time. That was a historic loss. Michigan just sucked last year.

Minny losing to ND St in 07 ranks right up there with Michigan App State. 07 was ND ST's 2nd year in 1AA football, App State meanwhile has been a key player in 1AA football for years, winning national titles. The year previous Minny outlasted ND ST 10-9 in ND State's first year in 1AA

I don't think the NDSU or the App State upsets were really that big.

Those were just some REALLY GOOD FCS teams if you follow that division at all.

It was only a matter of time before there became somewhat of a parity between D-I and D-IAA

Wisconsin better watch out for WOFFORD this year. Seriously. No joke.
