It's long overdue but in a time like this I dont think its necessary in a time like this. Give that money to the social services that this state does not give a **** about.

Yeah, isn't that what the Church is for(besides "taxing" you 10% of your income and converting you to their religion to get it)?

Good. If you ever need the help you will just turn it down.

This is quickly moving quickly towards the political realm, which isnt allowed on this forum, I dont think.

In any case, I always like to see improvements to NIU. Its a great university.

Well most of my family are social workers so you know my stance on it. Getting laid off because of crappy politicians sucks. And Illinois already was dead last when it came to supporting social services, so its not like much of your money was going to it anyways.

Id rather be paying taxes to social services rather than giving lazy ***** on welfare money.

welfare is a social service. Some are worse than others, and i'll agree with you on teh welfare point. There is nothing wrong with social workers, but they shouldnt be supported by teh govt is my point.

"On paper" it's a worthy perspective and principle.

I do wonder with those taking such views if they also strongly support complete and genuine separation of church and state to the extent , say, of not spending a tax dime to transport private students to private schools of buses funded for public school students or to receive state dollars for textbooks.

In reality private sources could come no where near the need with a fraction of the money needed to provide services ---- and not all the needy are lazy slacker opportunists.

of course if the govt wasn't taking huge sums of the public money for BS pork programs and social services, there would be a lot mot private money for people to use to gain those services on their own. The govt is not designed to be your mother, and way to many people treat it like that's is the govt's role.

RE: Long overdue $ for NIU
My problem with this is how is our state going to pay for these programs. A balanced budget is the first priority. We need to live within our means. Everyone who is happy with NIU getting money will now vote for the elected officials responsible but who votes them out for creating this huge deficit. Its like borrowing on a credit card. Right now, everyone is happy but when the bill comes....

While we are at it we should ask for money to renovate the west side of the stadium.

All except for "the trough", please. It is a relic worthy of historic preservation. I can see it in the future proudly displayed in an excrement museum next to original crappers from England and pissoirs from France. What a true distinction we hold at Huskie Stadium! 04-bow

I'm sure some funds will be allocated from the money we get from the state.

Shirley Huskie fan for life jests. No state dollars may be expended by Springfield (legally) for collegiate athletics in Ilinois- unlike what's found in several other states.
