RE: So Troy Fans
The time is now for stAte to get to the tourney. Kessinger could not get it done, but Baumgartner will with the new regime.

RE: So Troy Fans
I've seen you have posted that statement in another thread. Why do you want stAte to make the tourny so bad? It sounds as if your a fan of stAte but that can't be. Your a BlueRaider and they don't pull for stAte!

RE: So Troy Fans
I see how your fans on your message board have long threads on the baseball games, and that they really care about the school's hardball program.

I'd rather see an SBC team in the tourney whose fans care, than a program that gets 50 to its games on free ticket night. Plus, I know you've been in a long drought as far as winning a game in the SBC Tourney.

Also, I try and keep up with the Baumgartner kid... a heckuva player. Wonder if he'll get drafted after his junior season ?

part of the reason we have long threads is we have people who actually take the time to follow the game. Im a baseball fanatic period, heck last week I couldnt make the ASU game at home. but instead of watching the Elite 8, I had college baseball on watching an SEC game. Usually me or a couple others start threads and update them for road games, and even though there may not be alot of posts, usually we have 6 or 7 following the game via the Den

We're not a strong fan base by any means. Only average about 400 per game. I think the problem is alot of our fans have not really followed college baseball before. We have a very loyal group and that helps us out alot

I wish more people would come, we have a nice park to watch the game. its small but you can get right up on the field nearly to watch the game. I mean in how many other parks can you actually have a conversation with one of the players sitting in the bullpen watching the game. Unfortunately, most of our fans wont come unless we are winning which we havent done recently

its tough when you can say before the season that making the Sun Belt Tournament is a success... we just cant have any expectations right now. and thats partially because of the mess Kessinger left us in. Anyone who watched us last year and this year can really tell a difference in how we play. Despite the fact these are alot of the same players...just a different style and new attitudes

Baumgartner is a freak of nature...and he still is just a sophomore

RE: So Troy Fans
At this point I'd be surprised if Troy won the series. It would not shock me one bit if Troy got swept. ASU seems to play well on the weekends, unlike the weekdays. Right now Troy's pitching is failing and the hitting is getting worse. Troy only managed 2 hits with no runs against USM's worst pitcher who had a 10.64 ERA prior to the game. He only had 2 strikeouts in the game, so it's not like he was blowing the bats out of the hands of the Troy hitters.. so that alone says a lot.

Troy sent in one of the weekend starters after 4 innings in Game 2 when the game was 2-0 USM, and on the first pitch he gave up a 2-run homer and gave up a 3-run homer in the next inning. So things aren't going good for Troy in either phase of the game.

State, i feel your pain about the lack of support for your baseball program. I would like to suggest a few things that really helped us
here at UL.
1) Form a Diamond Club or whatever you want to call it. You might
start with the 50 or so diehards like you who have a passion for baseball.
Charge them an annual fee ($100. ) . Have your Coach offer a luncheon
once a week and charge $10. to $15.00 for attendence. He can give yall inside info. and speak of the previous and upcoming weekend.
2) Start a Tailgating Club, that promotes and cooks for the Parents
of team players each Saturday during home series'. It builds interest,
and before you know it, more will join in on the fun. Have your members
invite guest who never come to the games. You will be surprised
how it catches on . Folks are looking for a way to help and become involved. All it takes is a little leadership. I would form a committee
to help organize things. Go out and get you some weekly sponsors who
would will pay or prepare an Entre' once per year. All you need is 5 or 6
depending on how many home weekends you have. Get some local publicity going.
3) as your numbers grow, offer charter buses to away games that
are not too far, those are a blast.
4) Create some excitement at the games by offering give-a-ways.
Try selling 50/50 raffle tickets during the game, and in the seventh
inning, draw a number that gives the winner 50 % of what was sold.
The remainder goes to the team to help with expenses. Get a
homerun sponsor , and sell numbered programs. Pull a winner for each
Homer.
5) Host a different group each at your tailgating event. Maybe a little league team, or an handicapped team, get the team to offer the players
free tickets, you can sell twice that to parents and grandparents.

Just a few ideas that has worked for us, Hope some of these ideas
might work for you. The main thing, is to get it started, Form a Club,
and watch it grow..
Best of Luck !
