RE: 1,300 Navy sailors expected for the game
I will thank the servicemen I run across in the stands, but there is no way I am cheering for any of the players on the field. I'll boo them like any other team we play. I'm not booing them as people, I am booing them as players.

Many football fans glued to their TV sets across the country might not be sympathetic to your behavior.

We cannot afford to antagonize a good team of good folk whom come to DeKalb to play us. We need them to take home a good experience and want to play us again.
We need our fans to show some class.
We need all the sympathy we can muster for our cause.
Our cause being advancing the NIU football program.
Besides these good folk are putting their lives on the line so we can watch football.

At last year's Navy game at Annapolis, the pre-game "show" was impressive. What appeared to be every student at the acadamy took to the field in formation then marched off to their seats. Like I said, TO their seats, they did not sit. They stood for the entire game (every last one of them).

Does the possibility exist for a pre-game flyover by the Navy jets? It would be great if our AD were on this.

Some Navy trivia:
Anchors aweigh is the song they play at every game.
Would it not show some class if we show it respect and sing or hum it each time they score?
Show 10 of millions of fans nationwide that NIU fans have class.

Would be great provided we shout loader for NIU, when we score.

Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We'll never change our course, So vicious foe
steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh.
Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more,
Here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

Too bad they shut down the Naval Air Station in Glenview in the mid-90's. They converted the air base to a residential neighborhood.

Of course, we could also call the Air Force and get the F-16's based in Madison for a flyover. I'm sure the AF would love to tweak the Navy if given the chance.

The Bears have Navy flyovers at least twice a year. I think we could swing this.

If only they played "in the Navy" by the village people, that would be cool. Probably not enough class for them.

He couldn't tell me what section they'll be in because they're not getting their tickets until they get on the bus to leave for DeKalb.

With the anticipated lack of student attendance, I'm thinking they might be on the east side.

gosh i hope not...

away team fans + drunk students = Classless idiots that dont know what they are doing.

Oh God no! Not a Drum and Bugle corp! Our players might decide to run over them. 05-stirthepot Sorry. Couldn't resist. 03-lmfao

I met an old fart stranger wearing a Navy hat in local Jewel Saturday nite.
I asked and Yes - he is going to the game.

Expect alot of that to happen off the radar.

My brother is currently stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes and he called me today to confirm that him and a bunch of his friends were coming.

They're getting charged $10 for a chartered bus ride to DeKalb their game tickets. Not a bad deal for a lot of Seamen who are looking to get away from the daily regiment of the Navy and get back to some what of a recreational event.

We should greet them with pride and praise them for their service and dedication serving in the Armed Forces of the greatest country in the world!:patriot:

Hear! Hear!

I see your flag and raise you one.

instead of booing when they take the field we could all just stand and cheer for them before our huskies take the field

I do not think you will hear too many boos. We are not Rutgers.

I lived at GNAS for four years, until my dad retired from the Navy, when I was in sixth grade. What great memories! 03-cloud9

As a veteran of the Air Force, I will cheer when Navy takes the field, root for the Huskies to kick the crap out of them, and cheer for the Navy as they exit.
