How many returning starters do you have from last years potent offense?

You joke about that but Indiana St played Purdue evenly for about 3 quarters, and then Purdue got a few late scores to make the score look way more lopsided than the game was. In case you forgot:

Thank you so much MD for finally admitting to the point I've been making about you all along. You take something that happens ONCE and use it as you basis for all arguments. Haven't you watched sports long enough to realize that weird sh!t happens on occasion? YES is was very impressive for Ind St. to put up 35 points on a Big Ten school but that doesn't make their offense "potent."

That game was played 2 years ago so I fail to see what it has to do with the game this year. Indiana State scored 236 points in that year, 2006, compared to only 123 last year.

I think you meant to say "impotent offense", ISU averaged 11 points a game in 2007.

As for returning starters, all I can say is not many, ISU began the Fall practice schedule with 42 new players, but they do have 90 on the roster, last season they only had about 50 or so on the roster at season's end. ISU lost 2 potential starters (O-linemen) to injuries on Friday.

I will say this though, I think with the good QB situation and a couple good receivers and RB's ISU will average more than 11 points a game in 2008.

NIU is the 3rd game for ISU, so hopefully the new players and returning players will have a better idea how to run the new offense implemented by the new coaching staff. Should be alot of passing with Schmidkte at the QB this year.

indystate- Was there a big reaction to the Tyler Lamz injury. I played with him in HS and was just wondering if the fans and team had high hopes for the guy.

indystate Wrote:ISU won't win 8 games this year, not by a long shot, but with the new coaching staff and better recruits, maybe in a year or 2?

The WSU recruit, Calvin Schmidtke, will probably start at QB for ISU against NIU, he's had a pretty good Fall practice season and had a good scrimmage Saturday. He'll also probably be the starter at Eastern Michigan on the 28th.

Jerry Kill knows ISU obviously, so most ISU fans won't expect ISU to win at NIU. Hopefully they'll be competitive.

Conversely, ISU knows Jerry Kill, so they will know what to expect from him. Stopping it could be another matter.

IndyState - Any idea how much of a payday the Sycamores are getting for this game?

nothing against ISU, but i would be highly embarassed if we lost at home to the sycamores... especially since we are so close to a town of the same name.

I have never heard of Tyler Lamz, he's currently not on the ISU roster, I wonder if his injury was a career ending injury? I am sure there are people on the ISU board who would know more. Sydcamore and Tom James, who post alot about FB, would know. Syd's brother is on the ISU team.

And I am not sure how much ISU is getting for the game at NIU? I would guess $100,000+, but not too much over that. They also open at Eastern Michigan and are probably getting $100,000+ for that game too. If ISU comes out of those 2 games with no injuries and showing signs of improvment, then ISU fans will be ok w/ that.

Hopefully the ISU basketball team beats NIU again when they play in Dekalb this winter though. Basketball at ISU is quite a bit better than FB

He would've been a Jr this year. He had another knee surgery after getting injured last year during Spring practice. It was his 2nd knee surgery in 3yrs. I know that he's not playing anymore.

I think there is a high chance of that happening. This will be our new coach's second year and we're still very young and inexperienced. Most of Rob Judson's (our old coach, now an assistant at IL St.) players are off our team, which is a very good thing. Now we can move on and start to see what Patton's players can do. If we are a .500 team this coming season i'd be very surprised. But i am excited about the future of this program. We've sucked for far too long.

that's sad to hear, I did a search on ISU's site and see he was an offensive lineman, ISU really needs help at that spot, so he would have fit in well had he not had the knee trouble.

I remember when ISU had this kid named Larry Bird playing for them. He was pretty good. Whatever happened to him?

it was JUST discovered Larry has 1 year of eligibility left, so he'll be suiting up for the Sycamores this season!
