niu079193 Wrote:To those who have responded to my earlier post, here's the final thought. This isn't about jumping ship from the cardinal and black and going to the ilini or anything like that because they are winning. This isn't about not showing up to the game next week or the weeks after that. Though I say that I may not go, I know that I will be there an hour before at the 25-yd line on the north-east side, feeling chills like I have every home game for the last 4 and a half years.. The problem is that the 3 losses to SIU, EMU, and Temple are so gutwrenching to me that I get to a point where I just can't care as much right now. I'm sorry, thats just the way I react to these sorts of things. It's not about being a "true fan." I'll be there supporting, but I realize that this year is all but over, and it's a little unbelievable to me. To say that I am entitled to more than a 1-11 season does seem a little stupid to me the day after, but in a way it still makes sense. We need to expect to win, because once we let losing be the norm it may never get better. What happens if next year they are terrible as well, or the year after that? Do we sit on our hands and take the lumps, or do we make our frustrations known to this program to get it back on track.

Now you're gettin' it. People need to think really hard about what they post, because it stays around and will eventually get thrown back in their faces. Call it the message board equivalent of the accountability that many are demanding of the football program.

Of course, it's understandable that you'd be that upset about the way we're playing. It may be difficult for some to believe, despite my velvet-throated posts, I'm the same hulking j*#k-off that paced back and forth in his garage yesterday, listening to the radio, grumbling, "The f#^%in' extra points are gonna cost us!", and acting like a grumpy clown to my own children for a half-hour after the game.

I don't bring that here because I don't think that ill-conceived rants are what anybody wants to read.

Now, if I can just work on not being a b@$#ard while the game is going on or immediately after, I'd really have something.

RE: Everybody Get Real
I would tend to say that as supporters of the program, we have the option or rather the responsibility to measure the results of our investments. Quite clearly when comparing our "young" team to other programs (CMU, WMU, Ball State, the team down south), we are not getting anything good for our investment. Why are the other programs getting it done with their "young" talent and we can't? Why aren't all the seniors playing? Who recruited the players? Who is responsible for coaching up the players?

Yes, it is easy to take pot shots and "kick 'em when they are down", but at what point is the coaching staff responsible for the recruiting and lack of coaching the players up? We as supporters of the program should not question what is going on? I think not.

RE: Everybody Get Real
This is a super thread and a good, intelligent discussion. It exhibits the passion we all feel as Huskie fans. Congrats, guys.

As for me, this season was over a couple games ago. It was cemented shut with the loss to Temple. However, I will still attend and enjoy the games and cheer on the Huskies. All we can do now is fight on and try for some respectability or just cave in. I'm all for fighting through this and trying to make some showing. I will now try to enjoy each game, relax, and enjoy the fabulous atmosphere at Huskie Stadium.

As fans, we can either accept our current situation, which we - as fans - have little control over, or we can abandon the team and come back next year. I am choosing to stick around, enjoy whatever thrills this team can give us, and just look forward to next year, when I think we'll see a lot of changes (at least I hope we will).

It's tough, but just keep the faith, relax, and enjoy what you can. We have but little choice.

RE: Everybody Get Real
True Huskie fans will stick by their team...it is a down year but Joe pretty much predicted this. The defense plays hard and is pretty good. The offense makes too many turnovers that lead to points. Next year's QB slot ought to be wide open competition. Let's attend the remaining games and cheer them on.

Certainly, as a fan you have the right to criticize but the kind of personal character assissination that goes on here (maybe not by you) is childish. We can criticize but it is the Athletic Department that has this final authority to review our coaches' performance, not the fans.

Second, no way do I believe this is a 1-11 year but even if it is why should I think I am entitled to a better team than that?

Third, I agree with your final comment on inplementing changes in the "new season" that comprise the final 6 games. I would have thought that was obvious. Otherwise, what would be "new" about it? I have already suggested a pretty radical change in moving Britt back to QB if Nicholson is out long term.

Fourth, I'm not drinking anything except Diet Mountain Dew. 03-wink

Well, it's been real but I'm going to bed now. 03-zzz

First - you know going is as a coach of a D1A football program that you are up for critisism - if not don't take the job.

Being the head coach at NIU is one of the easiest places to fly under the radar - every good program is analyzed - if these people are bothered by it they should play at the rec center and not worry about what other people think.

BEHIND? THRUST?? I think you fellows are trying to insert someting perverted in me! We need to work together to stick in whatever we have available to help rectify this horrible situation. We need to put in whatever we have and feed off of each other's resources. This is the only way we can suck it up and proudly display that which makes us men (or women). This is NO time for perversion or innuendos!!

If the Huskies win next week, they will be 2-5. 2-5 is better than 1-6. It would also be good to beat WMU, after they won last year. I do not like this idea of calling it a new season from here on, because if they lose again, then next week they have to say, "Okay, now we really mean it this time. A new season!"

I will still go to Huskie games and cheer them on. Eventually this team has to break out.

This is a new situation for Novak and crew. While Joe has coached a losing Huskie team before, this one is not a team he has inherited.

I have no problem if they use that once(as they did before the Temple game) but I agree to continually use it week after week it does lose its effectiveness. I think it is time for the "play for pride" idea.
