But, he only has to wait one quarter before a scholarship is available at Cincinnati instead of a full semester with us.

Also, I still wonder if he was "officially" enrolled at NIU on time to be eligible for next year.

Thanks DJ....for nothing. This whole situation did nothing good for our school. Where are all the posters who said he wanted to come here because he had his cousin and teamates here? In less than 1 year, he's walked out on 2 teams.

Since he is from Chicago, I wish him well. This just goes to show you there WAS more to the story than ND screwing with him.

Now back to our season at hand, Go Huskies.

Sounds like it is because he didn't enroll in time; then they discussed the Jr. College route but at that point he decided Cincinnati was the better choice. Can't blame the guy; they are having a great year and run an offense that suits him in a better conference.

I never understood your affection for this player. You had him in the NIU Athletic HOF and getting NIU priceless publicity before he ever unpacked.

That statement is right on the money.

DJ used NIU which makes him a hypocrite for complaining that he felt "used" by ND. To hell with him

RE: It's over: It's official: It's time to move on.
My spin is somewhat different.

I think he put himself into a vulnerable position when bolting from ND.

He likely did not have a full, informed grasp of his options and hastily attached himself to NIU primarily due to his Morgan Park connections with the Huskies.

After ND completed what Irish would call due diligence with DJ when he returned to campus & met with officials, they provided him with the same "services" any other ND transferee might expect.

With eyes wide open he looked at his first mistake and likely decided he then made a second mistake and rush to judgement without all the facts in place.

I still do wonder what role -if any - the 12th day transfer rule and his announced, premature enrollment without transcripts in place was handled by NIU Admisssions.

Can onyone be officially enrolled without official transcripts from HS or another college in place?

I think you are exactly right on the first part. As for the second, I don't think we will ever know for sure. I think what happened is he was here on time but he was a student at 2 schools at once. Then the question comes up-which school is his actual school. I am thinking that maybe because he still had a scholarship at ND that under NCAA rules he would still be considered a ND student on the 13th day. Making him ineligable to play here next year. Once he found that out, ND "advised" him of his other options making Cincinatti one of the few choices he had left and he didn't want to waste time at a JUCO so he took the best option. I think by the end of his career at Cincinatti he will not be a QB but a reciever or some other position. Did he make the right choice? I suppose we will see in 3 years.

Good luck to him. He made an informed decision re: what's in his best interest.

Too bad for NIU.

The entire process started on the wrong foot.

All truths may never be fully known.

Can we all just move on - or at least give the topic a rest?

As this thing drug on, it became apparent he is not the kind of player NIU would want anyway. A little "mentally unstable". I think all Huskie fans are happy this is over, he seems to be a little on the childish side.

What if he really wanted to transfer here but based on no scholarship, no coach and was not able to play for us next year because of NCAA rules(see my above comments)? What would you do? You could go JUCO and hope you can get enough credits to get your degree and transfer to NIU or go to an up and coming team with a scholarship only after a quarter and in a BCS conference. Maybe it was the best and only choice he had? If that is how things were, can you really call him names you have?

He just seemed to me to be a very confused young man, who did not handle the situation well at all. To me it would have been a risk anyway investing in someone in that state.

Confused is good. "mentally unstable and "childish" are a bit harsh since we really don't know what was going on.

The way he handled it was childish, I guess I should have made it clear his behavior was childish, not trying to characterize the person.
