Per the Orlando Sentinel...

Quote:Barring a medical miracle -- and they haven't witnessed any yet -- the Orlando Magic said Wednesday that they expect Grant Hill to miss the 2003-04 NBA season.

The surest indication that the Magic are preparing for Hill to sit out the season: the club will seek salary-cap relief from the NBA by applying for the disabled player's exception.

The Magic have until Oct. 1 to apply for the medical exception, worth $4.8 million, but likely will make their request soon. They want to have the money available for this summer's free-agent recruiting period, which begins July 1.

Magic General Manager John Gabriel said Wednesday it was "likely" that Hill "will never play this coming season."

That's a shame. He should probably just give it up.

I am glad he left Detroit a few years ago. I don't think he has played a full season since leaving the Pistons!

When he was in college I thought he would make an impact in the NBA. If I had an injury that was as serious as his seems to be, I think I would just hang up the sneakers so I would be able to get around later in life.

I had forgot that he was with the Pistons.

Grant Hill is KILLING the Orlando Magic! They gave up Ben Wallace for him and took on his huge salary. Now they have nobody inside, Hill's hurt again, and they have no money to spend because of his huge salary.

That being said I do feel bad for him. He's a good guy and a heck of a ballplayer. It's sad to see.

From what I've read about his past injuries, it seems like they misinterpreted the first injury, and repaired it wrong, making it prone for future injury. His latest surgery was to try and correct these mistakes. Obviously his body is still recovering from the surgery or he hurt himself again.

The reason he doesn't hang up the sneakers is because he isn't a quitter. He has faith that he's gonna get that injury right & get back on the court. The guy has tons of heart & loves the game, he's willing to do anything to play basketball.

Bottom line folks - he has heart, but no NBA body capable of withstanding the rigors of basketball - maybe he could help out coaching since he watches from the sidelines anyway. Just a thought.
