Either that or it's coach KryScaredShitSki breaking out the blue kneepads for another 15 year old angel eyed recruit.

I can't believe anyone with a degree from Duke, a scholl of notable academic standing, would be stupid enough to refer to Wake Forest as a redneck school. You certainly aren't talking about our fan base, which is universally regarded as one of the more snobbish in college fandom simply because we don't attract bandwagon fans. We are little old Wake Forest and we don't draw the same fans that a school like Dook does. In fact, if you want to talk about redneck fans I've got some stories about some Dook fans who turn up every fall wearing their royal blue 91-92 back to back wife-beaters that they bought at the local Salvation Army. Don't ever try and paint Wake Forest as a redneck school, or our fans as rednecks when Duke is synonymous with white trash bandwagon fans who show up every basketball season and then return to their single-wides the rest of the year.

Now, concerning tradition with respect to the SEC you seem bent on this ACC is second to the SEC in tradition. Well, I concede that the ACC football tradition is horsedung. However, you cannot be stupid enough to claim the SEC has a superior basketball tradition to the ACC. If you really did go to Dook, which I seriously doubt, then you would never have been able to get out of Derm without learning that the ACC is superior to the SEC in basketball.

And finally, you are cordially invited to the BPD/LK tailgate. I enjoy conversation, especially with people as enlightened as you. Adn as BPD will attest, I NEVER ever ever get impatient with people when I think they are full of **** and I never ever try to intimidate people I think are facking morons.

Yeah, I just about choked on my bagel with that "Wake redneck" comment myself. Wake is not the first school that comes to mind when I think of "rednecks."

But, I suppose any school that doesn't grab half of its students from New Jersey is now considered a "redneck school," huh?

Hey Karma, why do I have this strange image in my head of Blue Balls showing up at our tailgate wearing camouflage pants and trying to scalp tickets?

Blue Balls, I hate to break it to you, but Wake is now the third rated school in the ACC according to USN&WR.

Disclaimer: I think those rankings are trash. I only pointed it out because Blue Balls found it necessary to bring up rankings while trashing our academics.

Since Blue Devil is still trying to figure out how to do an internet search for facts, I did a little work for him with his beloved US News & World Report college rankings:

Top 50 National Universities - Doctoral

(ACC schools in bold)

8. Duke
21. Virginia
26. Wake
28. UNC
38. Boston College
41. Georgia Tech
46. Penn State

Your opinion doesn't hold up to real facts, Blue Devil.

Tallahassee to DC is a third of the coast, yet it's called the the Atlantic Coast Conference, why? Shouldn't it be called the Northern 2/3 of the Southern Half of the Atlantic Coast Conference? Everyone seems to agree NCSU and Clemson are redneck type schools that don't help the ACC's reputation, Clemson in the middle of nowhere in the south, 89% white, and has 15 NCAA violations per year. Wake is in the middle of nowhere in the south, 88% white, just 3% asian or hispanic or native american and 1% international, about half the students join frats or sororities, and majority are southerners not smart enough for Duke or Emory or other similarly priced schools, all that may indicate that the percentage of reactionary bigots may be somewhat higher there and at Clemson and NCSU than at other div.IA private schools or other schools in ACC and elsewhere, which is not to say that most are that way. Prestige is largely a measure of academic rep and selectivity, BC has 20000 applicants per year and 9000 students, and Wake has just 5000 applicants and 4000 students plus inferior sports, location, selectivity, and academic rep, etc. US News rankings criteria change every year because the few editors that come up with them want to sell magazines plus they are clearly biased towards small schools regardless of whether anyone has heard of them or not, but academic reputation scores are fairly constant and reflect the opinion of thousands of university presidents, administrators, etc. According to usnews.com, academic reps of Wake, NCSU, and Clemson, are all worse than reps of Duke, UNC, UVA, UMD, GT Penn State, and BC, and about the same or worse than Miami, Syracuse, and FSU.

Was it the fact that a large percentage of Wake students are Caucasian that made you stereotype them as "reactionary bigots?" Or, was it that "about half of them join fraternities or sororities?" Because, I mean, when you lay it out that plainly, of course they are "reactionary bigots!"

lucy, where did you go to school? Academic rep is graded on a 5 point scale at usnews.com. Southerners as a group tend to be more conservative and racist, and certain schools have more of both types, we all seem to agree on that especially with regards to 2 schools. However, that may be an unpleasant or inappropriate discussion for some people.

Let's stay on topic and concentrate on the key issues.

Atlantic League would be much better in athletics, academics, exposure, revenue, and everything else, and be best in the nation instead of 2nd of 2 in southeast. Why would Wake, NCSU, and Clemson fans want to continue to lose to superior schools and teams in the ACC when they can be more competitive in a new Big East, academically, athletically, and in every other way? More importantly, why wouldn't Syracuse, BC, Miami, Penn State, UMD, UVA, Duke, UNC, GT, and FSU, want to be part of the best league in the nation in every way while doubling or tripling exposure and revenue?

That statement is right along the sames lines as saying that "Muslims as a group tend to be more terrorist."

Try again.

There is a higher percentage of terrorists and those who support terrorism among the Muslim population. Would it be easier to comprehend if you realize that people are individuals but within a group there may be higher percentages of certain types? Why does everyone here seem to agree Clemson and NCSU are redneck type schools but not Wake, what are the differences which separate them, do they not share certain similarities? One definition of redneck is uneducated laborer, another is reactionary bigot, and fair or not, NCSU, Wake, and Clemson, have the reputation among some of having more of that second type than other schools, and this does not help the reputation of other ACC schools. That's really unimportant though compared to the larger issues involved in conference realignment.

This thread is about conferences and schools, the only reason rednecks got brought into this is because big pimpin deac accused me of sounding like a redneck from a community college and I pointed out how absurd that was, yet I feel no need for anyone to waste time with defense of community colleges or outrage at bpd who first used the term. Some people want to turn this into an emotional and irrelevant discussion since they failed to make any point in a rational discussion of the actual topic.

The real question is, if a school doesn't contribute much, does it deserve to take money away from other schools, is that the American way? Is it unethical to form more profitable and fair organizations, or is it actually the right thing to do?

Blue Devil - your ranting about southerners being racist in general is not going to get you far on this board.

I suggest you take note of the fact that many people here are southerners who may take offense to your comments. if you wish to continue posting here I think you need to find a new thing to rant about.

Just so you know, whenever I jokingly refer to schools like NCSU as "redneck" schools, that has no bearing on whether I think they are bigots or racist. You mentioned one way the term is used -- there are also other, more affectionate ways that the term is used in the South.

And, coming from a Carolina grad -- no, Wake is not commonly viewed as a "redneck" school under any defintions of the word.

I think everyone else has done a fairly good job of shooting down the rest of your arguments.

Blue Balls, you keep referring to the ACC as the 2nd of 2 conferences in the south. Well guess what poor academics hasn't hurt the SEC from being the best conference, in your opinion, in the south. So why kick Clemson, Wake or NCState out for poor academics. Academics is not keeping the ACC from being the best conference in the South, it's sports.

"Why would Wake, NCSU, and Clemson fans want to continue to lose to superior schools and teams in the ACC when they can be more competitive in a new Big East..."

Please think before you type. At what point has Clemson not been competitive in the ACC. In Football we almost always, minus the Tommy West era, compete for the top stop in the ACC. This past season we finished tied for 4th in the ACC. 2000 we finished 2nd. Sounds competitive to me. 1999 we finished 4th but only lost by 3 points to FSU, undefeated national and ACC champions, and lost by only 3 points to GT, 2nd in the ACC.

If you think our baseball team isn't competitive you shouldn't be making fun of Clemson academics.

Soccer, Track and field, and Golf are always top ranked teams and compete for the ACC championship year in and year out.

And for the one and only sport you seem to recognize, basketball. Yes Clemson is a poor basketball team but it wasn't too long ago that we had a decent, competitive team. In 1998 we were the 6 seed in the NCAA tournament. '97 a 4 seed and '96 a 9 seed. Our problem right now is our coach. As soon as he's gone we'll be back to being competitive.

Academics is not hurting the ACC it's athletics. Clemson has better Football, Baseball, Golf, Track, and Soccer teams than Duke so in my opinion the weaker of the two should go, DUKE.

I just cut out some of the 10 times I wrote the paragraph below, some people wanted to focus on meaningless emotional discussions instead of the real issues, forcing me to ask the same important questions over and over again, but once I reposted them I cut them out of previous posts so as not to repeat too many times, hopefully that won't be necessary again:
