Tiger, not a great competitor
A great golfer, who when he is on can run away from the field. But has yet to show that he can be 3 or 4 down with the back 9 ahead of him, and make a charge to pull out the win. Nicklaus and Palmer could, and that's what made them such a loved golfers.

I was really hoping that Tiger would catch Johnson, not because I like Tiger, but because Johnson was crying and kissing babies with the tournament still in the balance. I would have liked to have seen Zach go back out there in a playoff and have his ass handed to him.

Really?
Come on. Tell us the real reason. Kissing babies and shedding tears of joy and relief cant be all bad?

Even worse, he committed the ultimate network sin, thanking God on Easter for his good fortune. When he thanked God, CBS couldnt cut away fast enough. Would have been better off thanking Nancy Pelosi.

I'm not sure if Johnson's "Jesus-bomb" is what you're referring to gbl, but yes, that did make me want him to lose. :) I didn't think it appropriate to bring up here on the anniversary of the day that a person rose from the dead. 04-bow

I would have loved to hear his explanation as to why Jesus failed him in the playoff on Easter for sure.

Tiger never has had to play anyone tourney after tourney who could give him a challenge, lefty disappears if Tiger starts off strong, and nobody else usually hangs with him if he's hot. Not like Jack, he had to take them all on, Palmer, Player, Miller, Watson, Zoeller, etc....they all seemed to have strong years and went after him, and he accepted and met their challenge many times, sometimes coming in behind them, but relishing the competition.

I wish that lefty and Tiger would bring their 'A' games to the same tournament, thank god for the chance to play well, and play a close tournament.

Jesus Bomb
Lee you missed the point.

He didnt say that Jesus had/made him win. He simply credited the calm he had from surrendering his angst to the Holy Spirit. Zach, Tiger, Stuart all have to play the shots. No mystery there.

As far as losing/winning a playoff, Jesus could give a rip, unless that loss or win could bring someone into a personal relationship with him.

He leaves it to the likes of David Ledbetter to be a swing coach and that Pelz gentleman to help with that short game. 04-rock

That's always been my take, I never appreciated those athletes that said god or Jesus was on their side, because the god that I believe in cares less who wins a sporting contest, unless it's the angels vs demons.

gbl, you're probably right. I don't remember the direct quote, but I never like it when athletes reference a "higher spirit", regardless of context. That's one of my biggest pet peeves.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is to never bet against a "Hey-Look-At-Me-I'm-A-Christian" Christian on Easter.

Tiger is a great front runner but has rarely come from behind to win. I am not sure it has actually ever happened in any of his "major" wins.

When he has the lead, he can play safe and fire at the middle of greens and such. But when he is trailing in the last round and needs to fire at pins and make some putts, he hasn't really shown the ability to do so (at least in majors). 14 and 16 yesterday were perfect examples. Both holes he had birdie putts of around 10-12 feet and missed them both. 15 he knocks it in the water. Then on 17 with a sand wedge in his hand, he knocks it in the front bunker. That was hilarious actually when you could hear him say "what the hell just happened".

Lots of times in majors, the rest of the field chokes and he walks away with the title without playing a great final round. That is something Jack could rarely, if ever, get away with. Tiger shot even yesterday and someone stepped up and beat him finally. First time he has lost a major when leading at some point in the final round.

I like that Johnson guy. He stuck to his guns and played his game. If he continues to do that, I don't think this will be his only major win.

Jesus is my bookie!
I only watched the tourney off and on through since Thursday. Similarily I only stumbled on the 'sobbing, smooching and slaying in the spirit" by chance. Not until then, did I know Zach Johnson had a relationship with Christ. If that is so "hey look at me" so be it.

Comparitively, if it was cigarette dangling from the lip and cocktail in one hand John Daly mentioning as an aside, "those nips I had at Amen Corner really settled my nerves", or Tiger commenting that he felt his Dad's presence reminding him to focus on the task at a hand, whats the difference?

I think it touched a completely unrelated nevrve to golf.

Betting against "Christians"? Falvius and Cornicopius cleaned up early during the early days of the coliseum. 04-rock

Gobaseline - you know I love ya, man. But there are just sometimes that.............. Well, let me ask you this - Are there Cliff's Notes available for your posts, because sometimes I'll be damned if I can figure out what you're saying. (Remember, I'm old, too, and maybe the problem's all on my end.)
