Michigan university funding update
One step closer to the "have" and "have-nots".

Pure bullcrap:

I can see why Michigan-Flint, and Michigan-Dearborn wouldn't sign on to stop this but what is Northern Michigan's deal?

Western has more Michigan residents
It's odd that Western, even after years of declining enrollments still has 2,000+ more Michigan residents than scUM and its scUM that is getting more Michigan money.

Amazing that this might pass. No wonder this state is going down the tubes given the leadership we have that will allow this crap.

The research those 3 schools do is all fine and dandy, but how much of the research actually stays in the state after the students graduate?

And WMU is a Level II research institution, right? (I don't remember the actual terminology). While WMU's enrollment may not be in the "Top 3", it's definitely on par research-wise I think.

What makes me mad is that MSU and WSU are definitely not in u.m.'s class, but they're grouped with them because their enrollment is equivalent.

If it is an issue of fairness as Mary Sue Coleman and her people claim, then I think UofM should have to go and ask the state legislatures of New York and New Jersey for apropriations. Why are the good people of Michigan forced to supplament the public university system of those states. If SUNY at Ann Arbor wants to be funded like a public university then they should begin acting like one.
